oh this is a really cool observation!! I had to go find the Pines of Rome score on imslp to see how it was orchestrated--this is SUCH an awesome & oppressive texture and a great ref

when I learned that Natsumi Kameoka's "Monster Smash! -Code 72-16-" drew from elements of the movie score in the field theme, I had the thought that KH3's arrangements are simply operating on another level

And the final point that's not in the interview, but I might as well share some speculation here to end it. This shot is certainly Visual Works, likely from the KH4 opening. If so, this means the music (presumably Utada's new opening song) for the OVA is already finished bsky.app/profile/davi...

※ Nomura describes the hiring of a new staff member responsible for organizing KH lore and explaining it to Disney et al. They joined the KH4 team as a scenario proofreader, specifically checking the new script against old KH continuity. There's now a KH Lore Bible and a fella who manages it^

※ the voice at the end of the coco trailer was indeed Kairi as speculated, and it was specially recorded for this D23 event. I anticipate she'll be shown the next time we have news ※ SPEAKING OF: Nomura says next info will probably have a fairly substantial gap. Probably no news at TGS

interesting tidbits! ※ fewer worlds than KH3, but more to see. ※ JP VO is done, EN is more than half-finished. Script is about twice the length of KH3's, so it might be a dialogue-heavy game. Some folks think this could indicate return visits to worlds.

So much to do, so little time...

A photograph of some sheet music lit under a desk lamp.

A photograph looking down a hallway of an enormous room. The overhead lights are warm. In the center is recording equipment and about 70 people.

This keyblade is awfully familiar! I wonder if the announced KINGDOM HEARTS -The Series- Disney+ series will be a story encompassing the chi series (UX, Dark Road, Missing Link) ?

New Kingdom Hearts IV trailer!! #KH4 And that music is VERY GOOD but I'm sure it's not Shimomura. I'd bet anything it was Shotaro Shima returning from KH3. It's good to hear him here!! www.youtube.com/watch?v=54eF...

Yesterday "Piano Fantasies - music from Square Enix" album released, containing three piano solos from the KINGDOM HEARTS series arranged by Michael Fuchs "Dearly Beloved", "The Afternoon Streets", and "Edge of Existence". Here's a link to the whole album on youtube www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKpx...

I guess "Fate of the Unknown" being the basis for Terra and Aqua's themes is a pretty good example. But I'm kind of looking for "event/scenario" music--music that recontextualizes a narrative moment (not just character themes!)

so maybe this is old news, but the german word Flügel means "wing" in english, but it can also mean "grand piano," so Nachtflügel could be translated to "Night Wing," but it could also in a roundabout way be translated to "Grand Piano of the Night," which I think sounds cool as hell

it does kind of feel like kh has gotten the short end of the stick lately, or that the series was a testing ground for different gamedev approaches that later get refined in sqex's favorite child. kh4 with the musical 7remake team would be a dream

Project Destati @projectdestati.bsky.social · 03/02/2025

now what can we do to get Mitsuto Suzuki doing cutscene music for this series too

110

Project Destati @projectdestati.bsky.social · 03/02/2025

shotaro shima is the best thing to happen to kh's music since yuko komiyama's work in 0.2 (is this a hot take)

Project Destati @projectdestati.bsky.social · 03/02/2025

It's kind of fun to compare the arrangement teams responsible for various worlds in KH3 -- which was your favorite world (musically)? I expect this kind of distribution (separate field/battle/event arrangers) will probably continue in ML and KH4
