Virginia deportations are up 350% since 2024, with nearly 3,000 Virginians arrested in the first 5 months of Trump’s presidency. 25% had no criminal record. 70% were longtime community members. 50% are parents of U.S. citizens. These aren’t just stats. They’re our neighbors.

Childhood poverty isn’t limited to any one corner of the Commonwealth. Children are facing shockingly high poverty rates in communities on the Eastern shore, in independent cities, and in rural communities. Hundreds of thousands of VA children are at risk from federal aid cuts.

Some of the great legislation that Glenn Youngkin decided to recklessly scrap in his final year as Governor. Banning assault weapons and protecting tenants would have made VA families better off but apparently, Gov. Youngkin cares more about appeasing landlords and the gun lobby.

Since local public employees gained the right to bargain collectively with employers in 2021, tens of thousands of teachers, firefighters, and other city and local government workers across Virginia have gained higher pay and better working conditions. 1/2

Over the weekend, the General Assembly passed some last-minute bills alongside the budget before adjourning. An increase in unemployment benefits, collective bargaining for public employees, and a ban on undisclosed AI-generated campaign ads. Pretty solid work for a Saturday!

Our second-favorite delivery from @destinyforva this Session is HB 1935, which creates a task force to facilitate home upgrades for energy efficiency and weatherization so that VA families spend less of their paychecks on utility bills. It's now headed to the Governor’s desk!

ICYMI: Yesterday, the GA sent two great bills to the Gov's desk! HB 1928 (@jeionward.bsky.social) would raise the min wage to $15/hr, and HB 2371 (@candimundonking.bsky.social) would require insurers to cover contraception. Surely, Gov. Youngkin will sign these common-sense bills, right? 🤔
