“A cap on utility rates would be life-changing for millions of Michiganders. It would help me save up for retirement and put more money aside for my children and grandchildren. It would help seniors living on fixed incomes and parents who are trying to provide good lives for their families."
Hard work and paying bills should afford a good life, but the promise of a good life in exchange for hard work feels increasingly empty.Currently, Gregory Warren's electric bill alone runs between $106–$120 a month. When his electric bill skyrockets due to the summer, he has to give up something else like gas, food, or medicine. He even has to put his retirement savings on hold.Michigan lawmakers need to step in to address skyrocketing costs. They can start somewhere small, by placing a cap on how much utility companies can raise rate year after year. Consumers Energy reported over $8.5 in revenue in 2025.A cap on utility rate would be life changing for millions of Michiganders.
