profspur @profspur.bsky.social · 4hNext in the queue as I attempt to keep you entertained between my busy schedule & through an absurd international break that’s almost as long as the season itself so far: first part of ‘The Eye Test’ series, on what I look for when I watch MIDFIELDERS. 150
profspur @profspur.bsky.social · 20hThis is very much filed under 'damn you for making me laugh at this.' 030
profspur @profspur.bsky.social · 20hThat series of op-eds by the transphobic Liverpool columnist was something to behold. 010
profspur @profspur.bsky.social · 23hYep, the relative audience sizes is a big part of my frustration with this dynamic. 010
profspur @profspur.bsky.social · 23hAddendum: Just to give my favorite example, whatever you think about Ange, the way his tenure at Spurs was covered was an embarrassment that probably hurt the club in the short and medium term. To this day people parrot narratives they learned from that period of podcasts. 3180
profspur @profspur.bsky.social · 23hBut it does frustrate me from time to time. And because Spurs in particular (as latest VFTL covered, I think pretty superficially) are a Topic of Conversation every week and every context, bad podcast analysis of Spurs ends up crystallizing into truism. /end 110
profspur @profspur.bsky.social · 23hPodcast formats frequently put factual questions to non-journalists and analysis questions to journalists who kinda are not good at analyzing the game. So you can get a lot of authoritative commentary that conflates the editorial and reportage sides of football journalism. Not the end of the world.. 140
profspur @profspur.bsky.social · 23hSome journalists are also good analysts of the players and the game, footballistically. Some are not. But the latter are valuable and should be on Spurs podcasts because they provide real knowledge about / coverage of what's going on. The problem is.... 130

profspur @profspur.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Congratulations on your not being in the relegation zone in 75 years trophy! Have you got a song yet? 100
profspur @profspur.bsky.social · 30/09/2026It’s funny to me that you think what you’re doing here is something other than demonstrating my point. 110
profspur @profspur.bsky.social · 30/09/2026I hate to break it to you but being bottom of the league for 3 weeks doesn’t matter unless it’s the final 3 weeks of a season. You can try but there’s no comparison here. 100
profspur @profspur.bsky.social · 29/09/2026You guys have a nice evening and good luck this season. 110
profspur @profspur.bsky.social · 29/09/2026That OP was self-deprecating is immaterial to my comment, though I get you'll fall back on that in one instance and sincerely believe the 'cartel 6' victimhood narrative in another. Kind of odd of you to think a self-deprecating tone is some kind of trump card for what can and can't be a response. 100
profspur @profspur.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I mean, I didn't miss the self-deprecation at all. I chose to respond on the terms of the 'cartel 6' bit. 120
profspur @profspur.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I think they're banking on sports gambling and banter to be honest. 030
profspur @profspur.bsky.social · 29/09/2026To become Everton, Spurs would have to have many more years of poor league finishes, about 15 more years of not winning a trophy, and about 20 more years of not qualifying for the Champions League. Two bad league seasons is bad for Spurs, but nowhere near Everton bad if we're being honest. 240
profspur @profspur.bsky.social · 29/09/2026When you last won a top-flight title in 1987 and haven't won a trophy in over 30 years '1961 ha ha ' isn't much of a case is it. 3131
profspur @profspur.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Increasingly I reevaluate Kane's departure along these lines. More than anything I think he wanted a super club where he could get his due recognition. Secondarily he wanted trofiez. But possibly also he wanted a long career of not getting hacked down every time he's on the ball. 4161
profspur @profspur.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Cherki is an interesting example now. 6 years younger than Maddison but plays 45-65 mins / game. It's almost like 'luxury player' is an epithet to distract from the fact that the league chose violence over football. 1140
profspur @profspur.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Olise was good in the Premier League but every time I see the highlights at Bayern I think in the Prem he just gets hacked down and it's not called or carded and you just never find out that the player is a genius. 3210
profspur @profspur.bsky.social · 29/09/2026There's no suggestion here that anyone let City off the hook. It's just a fact that hammering City--as they deserve--will have the undesirable effect of letting the League off the hook in public opinion. 211
profspur @profspur.bsky.social · 29/09/2026City are clearly irredeemable, but I hope fans don't let the Premier League itself off the hook. For this to have gone on for as long as it did cast a vast net of illegitimacy over season after season of results. The League's ineptitude or complicity is maybe worse than City's malfeasance. 2310
profspur @profspur.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Remember, their project is to become Spurs. profspur.substack.com/p/their-proj...profspur.substack.comTheir Project is to Become SpursApologies in advance for the collateral damage. 130
profspur @profspur.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Everton were part of the original 'Big 5' of English football pushing for the foundation of the Premier League. Self-victimization is how they cope with the fact that everyone else in that group kicked on while they fell off. 490
