I mean being the most corrupt US President in history does give him insight in ripping people off.

I’ve been teaching American politics as a non-American for close to a decade now. And if you want to understand today, I highly recommend reading this book. It is, in no small way, a book that peeled beneath the facade of America and exposed its soul. What a masterpiece of American sociology.

Looking for good, critical books on the Trump Presidency/American politics in the Trump age. Something accessible for 2 or 3rd year students. I'm curious about this forthcoming book, but do my American friends have other recommendations?

If you get a chance to see Montreal punk rockers NoBro, I highly recommend the show. Great music and a seriously cool energy.

Whoops, forgot to include the federal minimum wage changes, which go up to $18.15 on April 1.

Always a good reminder that conservative premiers in the Prairies love to champion their governments on how they deal with the economy. And yet when it comes to workers, they're happy to have the lowest minimum wage in the country.
A bar graph showing the minimum wage in each province. The red bars are Saskatchewan and Alberta, which have the lowest minimum wages in the country.

Maybe instead of dumb headlines like this, you could be less enabling? How about: "Trump's imperial presidency bullies allies into illegally taking Greenland." Or "Trump's new imperialism demands Indigenous lands, taking the world back to the horrors of the 19th century." Or "America's Shame"

When you visually see how much of the 'energy sector' dominates SK and AB economies, understanding their politics makes a lot more sense. Kinda. Source is Stats Canada. I'll also concede there might be more to this story, depending on how we capture the sector as a whole.

From the Red Cross this morning. The federal government and the Manitoba government are matching donations to assist the victims of the wild fires. The Saskatchewan government is thus far not matching donations.

Quick reminder that as the Premier of Saskatchewan says the best way to fight climate change is to develop Saskatchewan products and support Saskatchewan industry, his do-nothing-climate policies mean that SK has one of the highest per-capita GHG emissions in the country.

I get that Moe is a conservative and he only has the "blame Ottawa" policy in his pocket. But given his own limits on responding to the tariff war, his lack of any constructive policy response to trade, and his inability to even sit in the legislature these days, this is pretty rich.
