Okay, based adam smith making an appearance
“In a republican government it will scarcely ever happen that it should be abolished. The persons who make all the laws in that country are persons who have slaves themselves. These will never make any laws mitigating their usage, whatever laws are made with regard to slaves are intended to strengthen the authority of the masters and reduce the slaves to a more absolute subjection. The profit of the masters was increased when they got greater power over their slaves” (Smith 1762-63 [1981]:181).5

Hey did anyone see that the Council on Social Work Education has some red flags on their financial audit? projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/o...
An independent audit commissioned by this organization for the fiscal year ending June 2025 identified:

 Material weakness in internal controls
Audit identified a deficiency in internal financial or governance controls that could limit the organization's ability to track and report financial data reliably. The deficiency could lead to failure to prevent or correct noncompliance with requirements.
 Significant deficiency in internal controls
Audit identified a deficiency in internal financial or governance controls that could limit the organization's ability to track and report financial data reliably. The deficiency is less severe than a material weakness but warrants attention from management.

Must read
We have to confront reality: if you weren't born here, aren't white, in these election results we once again have confirmation that millions of your neighbours hate you & will prioritise hurting you over their own livelihoods. They will vote away their own rights, even their own life expectancy and ability to die with dignity, for the fantasy of a racially pure homeland.

That is the basic truth of our age, and any plan for the future must start with at least acknowledging as much

Always a good day to remember Virginia's state flag is metal af.
The state flag of Virginia. Some mythical lady representing Justice standing over a defeated tyrant looking all cool and regal. Surrounded by like some flowers within, I guess, it's the state seal? That's in the middle of this flag. I don't know. The person in it is rad and she beat this tyrant.

Joan Tronto's Caring Democracy remains an essential read during these times. If people would like to re-dedicate themselves to contributing to the care necessary to sustain democracy, it's one of many frameworks they could adopt to build effective empathy.

Beyond parody. Found the Democrat messaging.
House Appropriations ranking member Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., heralded the Financial Services portion of the bill for increased funding for entrepreneurship programs at the Small Business Administration.

“At a time when so many families are feeling the weight of the affordability crisis, and job prospects feel few and far between, we must do everything in our power to increase economic opportunities in the communities that need it most,” she said.

Security Failures
Capitol Police Response Escalates Tensions
Capitol Police aggressively fire tear gas, flash bangs, and rubber munitions into crowds of peaceful protesters, injuring many and deliberately escalating tensions. Video evidence shows officers inexplicably removing barricades, opening Capitol doors, and even waving attendees inside the building—actions that facilitated entry—while simultaneously deploying violent force against others. These inconsistent and provocative tactics turned a peaceful demonstration into chaos.

A 4 x 4 matrix with anti-pro transfer on the left and anti-pro market on the top. There are four boxes. Pro-transfer anti-market is pro-government. Prot-transfer Pro-market (preferred by the author) is the Free Market Welfare State. Anti-transfer, anti-market is reactionary populism. Anti-government is pro-market, anti-transfer...and that's where the US is (Canada, less so)

There are fewer cops on the beat today than since the era of Mayor dinkins. Even though our population has surged by 1 million. Social workers, do you know these cats? I need to be friends with these cats.
CHAPTER 6 Reframing Social Work Education Using OER Jennifer Wood and Mary Jo Orzech Social work is, by definition, a profession devoted to the pursuit of social justice and the eradication of oppression, inequity, disparities, and other forms of injustice. Social workers are focused on the empowerment of marginalized people and communities and are expected to adhere to clear standards of ethical and competent practice. Additionally, the title of “social worker” is earned through the successful completion of social work education, either on the undergraduate or graduate levels. These social work programs are, in the United States of America, accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), which periodically revises and updates its Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS)1 and monitors the adherence of each accredited program to these standards. Essentially, CSWE determines the learning of every social worker in the United States.

Does anyone know whether videos of state meetings are public domain in Maryland? I would like to apply the 5Rs... Seems like a fun video case study...
5Rs - Permissions of Open Education Resources
OER are materials used for education whose license provides anyone with permission to use the materials through these 5R activities:
RETAIN make, own, and control copies of the content (you may download, duplicate, store, and manage copies)
REUSE use the content (you may use it publicly or privately)
REVISE adapt, adjust, modify, or alter the content (you may edit or translate the content for your purposes)
combine the original or revision with other material to create something new

Legally, do commissioners inherit any legal liability for requiring an examination that is later found to violate testing standards?

According to the testing standards, "It is the user who must take responsibility for determining whether scores are
sufficiently trustworthy to justify anticipated uses
and interpretations for particular uses."

Here is a copy of my poster on unpaid fieldwork & social work student wellbeing. More students lose weight from food insecurity than earn any $$ for their hundreds of hours of practicum labor. It's horrific. We need industrial planning for care workers.
