The Nepal flood disaster continues to evolve. The drainage of the lower landslide-dammed lake last week undercut riverbanks, resulting in further small landslides. The huge volumes of sediment mobilized and redeposited during this event will remain unstable for many years to come. @planet.com 🧪⚒️

Sufficient satellite & drone imagery is now available to allow initial analysis of the landslide that started the 26 August 2026 debris flow in Nepal & Tibet. eos.org/thelandslide... This was a large failure with catastrophic impacts. But larger, more devastating, events have occurred in Nepal.

Initial reports for the #Myanmar #earthquake suggest a shallow, mw=7.7 event. This is going to be extremely serious - almost a direct hit on Mandalay (population of 1.2 million), plus many other villages in the area. The population has high vulnerability. A major international response is vital.
