So much for the "revival" of Heroes of the Storm. Seriously, the far bigger and more successful MOBAs (those that remain) have already set the rules for what you can or can't paywall. If Blizzard/Microsoft doesn't think they have to play by those rules, well, there's the trash can again for them.

Excerpt from the news post announcing the release of Xal'atath in Heroes of the Storm.

"You can unlock Zal'atath now for USD $7.99! For those of you that would prefer to use gold, our aim is to make her available for gold later this year, tentatively set for the end of November. For launch, we have to key goals that led us to only making her available through direct purchase right now."

"The first is simplicity: we want to make it as easy as possible for all players to acquire, whether you have played every day for over a decade or this is your very first time trying out Heroes of the Storm. The second is to help us best gauge sustainability, which leads us into the philosophy and design pillars guiding our team."

The simple fact is that you cannot have the public-facing uses of these technologies (and their immense data center requirements) while having those regulations in place. The "pro-AI" crowd is typically in favor of the public-facing uses, so the two positions are ultimately in conflict.

A Bluesky post by hailey:

there's this idea that you cannot be pro-AI and simultaneously support strict regulation around energy sourcing, land development, etc. from a lot of folks unfortunately.

As a heads up, the book recommendation site The Book Rex uses Claude AI coding. Normally, I don't go hunting for this sort of thing. Not being an experienced programmer, I don't think I can reliably spot it most of the time. Yet they were just so sloppy here, it stood out.

A text entry taken from The Book Rex's glossary page, with HTML code visible on the page.

Secret Identity / Hidden Truths

<p data-start="6g" data-end="443">When a character conceals an important part of who they are or what they’re facing. This could mean living under an alias, disguising their true role, hiding magical powers, or keeping something deeply personal—like an illness, trauma, or secret past—from others. The tension comes from what happens if (or when) the truth is revealed.</p>

A snippet of The Book Rex's website source code. This tell of "font-claude-response-body" commonly shows up when someone copy-pastes Claude's generated output.

...do you want to keep digging that hole? You haven't hit the lower mantle yet. For those unaware, brainstorming sessions are part of the conceptualization stage of game development. The guy here is literally contradicting himself between paragraphs.

A developer response on Steam to the Grim Dawn AI usage problem.

"Grim Dawn does not have any AI generated assets. AI was not even used during concepting.

What we said was that AI was used during brainstorming, no different than doing an image search, except image search has, ironically, been made infinitely worse by all the AI slop now flooding the internet. It's literally impossible to go on a website like Pinterest now (once a valuable resource for artists) and not be inundated with AI images.

You are taking what was said out of context, I guess for some kind of misguided moral high ground."
