I don't know if Mark knew in advance or not, usually not, but this is why you cannot trust a public statement by game developers. They have no idea what a greedy exec will cut, as profit is the only margin the company cares about. All live services games are not to be trusted to survive long.

A developer promising their game will be around for years and then 2 months later saying it is wrapping up within the year.
