But I’d also like to think that every individual’s impact is far greater than that - call it the butterfly effect - but I do always visit Pere Lachaise and visit Apollonaires grave: he invented a term I use every day: surreal!

When I first visited France it was Poitiers (figure that out! 😹) and in the cathedral there were all these panels reading “merci” from WW1. Even in Pere Lachaise so many monuments are so weathered by nature (not human memory) that this must just be the way things are.

In a tiny universe for the enormity of such experiences.

I mean this is true of all of us: someday someone will take down all of the photographs on my bulletin board and toss them in a dumpster erasing decades of memories. But perhaps that erasure is necessary for new generations to have spaces for their own memories. There is only so much space

A minor actress in the 1930s and a theater director in the 1950s in Paris, she died in relative obscurity. But last night, after figuring out who she was, I realized I probably was the only person on earth today remembering Germaine. She must have lived such an extraordinary life!

Three years ago I found these pictures in a pile of trash on a corner in the 19th eme of Paris. Turns out this is actress Germaine Rodger (1910-1975). I had forgotten I placed them in a book and they fell out last night. Made me think about memory and remembrance.

The friends I met (gave a cat face to a friend’s kid due to privacy issues but how incredibly lucky I am to have friends like this around the world?)

Montmartre at dusk is the most beautiful thing you can experience on earth.

Yes the canicules were terrible this year. The hottest temperature ever recorded in Paris and it just will get worse. I did my best by going to pools (Pallieron the 19th, the great pool at Butte aux Callies-and even the Seine, Canal Saint Martin, and other places!)

Yeah getting banned for at least 5 years from Schengen is not something I want to do. But it was great to spend this time in France with friends and colleagues.

Sean Duffy @profduff.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
No I had to get out of the Schengen and am back in Philadelphia but I miss Paris so much!!! Hope you are doing well!

Yes and in 2005. He must have applied distortions and other techniques but it was amazing. When I met him he did an installation at a cathedral at Chicago where there werev3 panels: left a woman giving birth, middle a man floating in water, and the right, a woman (his mom) dying. Was incredible.

It was amazing. One of the top ten art experiences of my life. Close behind on the third floor of the bourse was Bill Viola (who I once had dinner with at the university of Chicago but who passed last year) piece Fire woman. Breathtaking.

View from the Ligne 6 line from Dupleix to Bir Hakeim in Paris. Feels very cinematic with this Max Richter music.

Climbed a mountain or at least a very big hill in the Puy du Dôme region in France near Clermont Ferrand with my colleague Cederic Bouquet.

Sunrise in Montmartre in Paris. I will always for the rest of my life be amazed and astounded that a friend offered me this opportunity to experience all of this.

Went yesterday to the Bourse de Commerce in Paris to see Fujiko Nakaya’s piece “Cloud 07156” in which the rotunda filled with clouds. It was amazing. Here is a timelapse…it was probably the best work of modern art I’ve experienced.

The pool at Butte Aux Cailles in Paris. They should be winning Olympic records going at these speeds!

I didn’t add sound to this video: there was a busker playing the violin on the car that I was on! Still has to be the best view from any train on earth.

Sad update, my beautiful Blini passed in her sleep. She had a number of health issues and a recent surgical procedure (that was necessary) plus the heatwaves were all too much. She passed quietly at night at home. Mimo is so far doing ok. Blini got me through many difficult times, I miss her dearly

There is always Barbes market I love the prices but prefer Anvers market! Next time we hang out I have to tell you all about the counterfeit museum there is so much to discuss about this.

I know! But I got my hair cut from the guy last summer and it was one of the best cuts I’ve ever had. I looked - I’m not going to say good because at my age no one looks good - but respectable - for months!

This is mundane but Got my hair cut by a guy @chrisinparis.bsky.social suggested who is Arabic, doesn’t speak a word of English but has a cool shop with Budgerigar birds inside. Really nice guy who gives a great haircut in case you’re in need of one in Paris 9th / 18th…

I love it but I love even more remote parts of Paris: the coulee vert, the Rue de la Butte-aux-Cailles, these places are amazing!

Walked like 40k steps today because showing a lot of Montmartre is up and down hills! So my feet are killing but it was worth it!

Spent the afternoon with a former student Debrille who was in Paris for a day and is now a professor at the University of Washington! Gave a tour of Montmartre. Was great to reminisce and talk. She is working on amazing things. We also happened to have been born in the same hospital years apart!

Or they stay sufficiently below the waterline so that we never know it. I mean it’s the pool problem: if you know there was a corpse in a pool you’d never swim there, but you know there are many corpses in the ocean and folks do, so there is a ratio of corpses to water volume that is acceptable….

One of the new ones. Very nice but I may also try the one by the Eiffel Tower! (Once I know I don’t have an ear infection but I think I am okay. No corpses at least today that I know of…)😹

“The effect of ChatGPT on educators’ lives is catastrophic. Whether you intended to do it or not, you’ve made every teacher’s life infinitely more difficult than it was two years ago. So, just let that settle in… If students are using it to compose, which is the biggest tragedy of all, they’ll never learn to write. And their voice is stolen from them. They’ll never have the ability to say their truth and tell their own story. And that’s silencing an entire generation or two.”

I was thinking of going there today to a pool I very much like by Juares station but instead headed south to the Seine pool for a change! Let me know if you ever want to hang out I’m here for another month and am always looking for people to talk with!
