Behold, my rösti. It’s kinda like a cross between a potato pancake and hash browns, but glued together with lotsa cheese. I make mine with Jarlsberg cheese instead of Swiss.

We grew like 10 safflower plants this year. Came away with a 7oz jar! If you use a lot of saffron like we do & it’s too expensive, safflower is a great substitute. AND you don’t have to worry about trying to use as little as possible. (We add safflower to meat rubs & OMG is it good)

I see that it is international cat day. We had to put our cat down just 21 days ago. Our vet sent us his adorbs nose print. 18 years of my life spent with him and unforgettable times were had.

I’m kinda excited to try prosthetic “pinhole” contact lenses. They will have artificial colored irises, so I’m a little sad to lose my “mood eyes” (& the difference in color between the two as well). But if it means it stops nighttime image ghosting, I’ll be very excited. I’m going w/ dark walnut.

Today I had to say goodbye to Mischievous, aka Mister, aka Bean. He was born under my couch 18 years ago. He was named Mischievous because he was always the first kitten to figure out how to escape an enclosure to get to me… he was obsessed. The poop machine will be missed!

My asthma is really kicking off. It is very smoky where I live right now! Reminds me of a few years ago when we were in Canada during some pretty bad wildfires. So today is a sit-in-my-bedroom-with-an-air-purifier kind of day.

Spaetzle w/ green beans! If you’ve never had it it’s a great comfort food. Spaetzle (a style of egg noodle), green beans, bacon, w/ some a few spices, bacon grease & plenty of butter. I also made jagodzianki for the first time after I saw a pic on the BBC news app. They’re a berry filled sweet roll.

The jagodzianki I made today turned out amazing! I had raspberries from my garden and filled them with those. First time was a charm, though I will definitely make these a 2nd, 3rd, 4th… and many more times.

Can anyone tell me what is going on w/ my blood orange trees? The picture shows burrows or cankers on the trunks. I’ve tried looking it up but not having much luck. These are older divots & new ones don’t *seem* to be occurring but nervous as they’re 7–8 years old & I love them.

lol you all need to see this crockpot recipe for mascarpone mushroom risotto (was searching for recipes when I was working days for 16 hours) You literally cook almost everything first.

The recipe says to soak the mushrooms in warm water for 30 mins. Then you beat the butter with lemon zest and chives, roll it in a cylinder and put it in the fridge for 20mins. Next, cook onions for 5 minutes, strain the mushrooms, add those, and cook another 5 minutes. Take the liquid from the mushroom plus some stock, put it in a pan and heat it up. Take the mushrooms out and chop them. Add rice to the pan, add wine and cook for a few minutes. Add back the mushrooms. Only then can you put it in a crock pot and finish cooking it.

The butter stuff, along with mascarpone goes it only after it’s done in the crock pot.

!!!Need recommendation!!! Can anyone recommend a citrus potting mix? My blood orange trees have grown substantially (over 6ft) & I’m moving them to bigger pots. FYI they have not begun to fruit yet, I grew them from seed 7–8 years ago.

Made some bagels today. As shown in the pic, half are light in color & other half darker. I use them for different purposes, one type is for toasting with cream cheese and the other is for sandwiches. I went with a much longer ferment AND rise in the fridge this time—hope they aren’t terrible!

Woah, wild violet leaves are delicious! They taste like spinach. What I really need to know is if they are low FODMAP, bc spinach & some other greens are absolute no-gos. AND I also need to know if they are low in oxalates (bc being chronically ill means I can’t have nice things)

Ahh ok. The confusion is that you replied to my sub thread about squash blossoms instead of the main thread about onions. In short. If you grow squash you harvest the flowers (blossoms) batter & then deep fry them. It’s popular in Italy. These look small but they are about 6” long give or take 1.

My god the costumes in the show Lidia Poet are to die for. My medical conditions do not allow me to remember tv shows I have watched in the past. So, by rewatching it I get to fall in love w/ her outfits all over again!

Below is my slide for my lectures. You may be pleased to know there is no (scholarly) consensus on the definition or use of the term cult, though sect has a specific meaning. Technically all new religions started as cults, but many scholars won’t use the word cult. They use “new religious movement.”

The slide title is Types of Religious groups. The five types are:
Ecclesia. Formal part of state or nation & claims all citizens as members
Churches. Religious organizations that are institutionalized
Sects. Religious group that breaks away from established religion
Denomination. A subgroup within a religion & is recognized by the main group.
Cults. Newer religion at odds with dominant culture & established churches.

This is the bday apple pie I made for my spouse. We have yet to dig into it yet as we are still full from lunch.
