★ A native graphical shell for SSH probablymarcus.com/blocks/2026/... I spent time rethinking how we should interact with servers, Raspberry Pi, robots, etc., then built it up piece by piece.

I made something. It's like a web view, but native. Rather than parsing HTML and running JavaScript, it fetches machine code binaries over the internet and runs them sandboxed. probablymarcus.com/blocks/2026/...

Ubiquiti is the D3.js of WiFi. D3 wins not because it's great (though it may be!), but because it makes you build visualizations from scratch. Ubiquiti wins because it makes you wire up your home with ethernet and APs and switches.

Reminds me of another favorite few sentences, from Vernor Vinge's "A Deepness in the Sky"

Paul Graham's "Startup = Growth" essay was the one that most exceeded my expectations. Sometimes I come back to it just to re-read the last few sentences. www.paulgraham.com/growth.html

Watching my 8-month-old kid via "Memories" in my photos app, I feel like Cooper from "Interstellar" watching time skip forward. It's a huge relief when the video ends at the present.

I built a fun little Mac app called "Outer Loop". It's a specialized web browser that is aware of SSH. It's good at connecting to web apps running on private servers. Use it for Tensorboard, Jupyter, etc. Download it at outerloop.sh

New blog post: "Smooth Pursuit, and how Screens Don't Mimic Reality" Your brain makes clever use of smooth eye movements. This works in the real world, but it fails on screens. probablymarcus.com/blocks/2025/...

New post: The web could use machine code probablymarcus.com/blocks/2025/... If AI code generation is coming, then it's time to move away from the "write once, run everywhere" web.

Just realized that 4 of my last 5 blog posts end with variations on the same idea. Apparently I'm on team "Give people tools that encourage them to become experts"
