one character using therapyspeak is a character trait. most characters in your story using therapyspeak is a writing flaw. if you don't want to write messy people, you don't have to, but this intentional dodging of any real problems like you're trying to make a point about it is, uh. boring.

advertising "everyone communicates their feelings! no misunderstandings!" seems to frequently translate to "every relationship is black and white, characters are either good people or are cartoonishly evil, and anyone who seems grey is forced into a box very quickly"

and if that's what people want, sure. i get how poor communication can suck real bad in stories, especially if you never see the alternative. what i've found, sadly, is that the people who use that as a *selling point* for their work usually don't write dynamics well period.

i actually read one of those stories recently where the author proudly proclaims that their characters always communicate like healthy adults. (it was a webcomic, but that's still reading.) the overall plot was fine but the interpersonal dynamics bored me to tears. whoops.

i still mostly post on tumblr, i think it's the best modern socmed hands down. if it worked better, had better moderation, and allowed nsfw again, it'd be fucking unstoppable. as it stands it's more of an irradiated cockroach situation

speaking of niche fediverse instances, mine is down again. we're on a shared server and it gets overloaded a lot. cost to upgrade is Big. so it goes if we weren't semi-popular it'd be a different story, but our firm stance on freedom in fiction is regrettably rare in this day and age

the other night i was on call with my best friend and i mentioned using bsky again, he was like "do i have one? oh, i do, i made One Post" and like 10 minutes later as he's struggling to stay awake i was like "oh i found your bsky, i'm gonna follow it" he jolted awake with audible terror

I need all artists to know that using 3D models in your art is not cheating. Those free-to-use 3D models are literally there to make your life easier. Stop being so hard on yourself and just trace that 3D object. You don't need to be able to perfectly draw every object ever from memory!!

i've been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, which explains the constant severe pain. not well-managed yet. my liver is probably not happy about the daily 1000mgs of ibuprofen but we persevere. i'm doing my best

i have been incredibly fortunate to have the friends i do. i wouldn't have survived if not for them, a lot of generous donations, and a goddamn saint who just swept in as a complete stranger and helped me as much as he could. i love my friends, they've kept me going

left my partner of 10 years last june, unexpectedly ghosted by the only guy i wanted to hang out with a few weeks later. fell into a deep depression. got forced out of the house. lived in hotels for a few months. trying to make rent for an apartment now brought the dog and my cat with me, also
