I use a "third hand" holding devise to hold subsections at a convenient angle. For pairs of subsections, (like feet, arms) I do them at the same time to make it easier to align symmetrical decals. 010

Then, by the time I have a decal placed, I have next one ready. Decals have a pretty long grace period in the soak state, but do not let them dry. Some people even use a wet pallet. 120
Prinz Eugn @prinzeugn.bsky.social · 11/05/2026Part 5: Decals apply better to a gloss or semi-gloss surface. A gloss top coat on top of the decals help them blend with the surrounding paint/plastic and adds protection. You can then do any other topcoat/weathering on top of that gloss layer. 120

Sometimes, setter/softer can leaves water spot-like stains even with distilled water, but usually these can be cleaned up with distilled water and a makeup sponge or Qtip (just don't rub too hard and take off the decal). 120
Prinz Eugn @prinzeugn.bsky.social · 11/05/2026Part 3: Warm water is better, I use a cheap USB mug warmer to keep my water warm. I like to cut out all the decals beforehand with scissors (keeping the labels) because it's less tedious than doing them one by one later. Just don't scatter them. 120

If decal is on a weird surface, add Mark Softer and repeat Qtip. Qtip can be subbed for soft makeup sponge Softer can be used at any stage before this also, but makes the decal very fragile. 120

Pick up decal and touch edge to paper towel to drain excess water. Use a fine paint brush to push decal onto model and place. If needed, push around using toothpick. 130
