If you support a political party whose name starts with 'Re', I'm afraid there's nothing for you here.

10 months on, and I've had to make this point again today. How utterly depressing.

If you are trying to rationalise, justify or in any way excuse the murder of a human being then I have absolutely no respect for you.

Yeah, sure. Anyone who doesn't wake up singing "oh, Jeremy Corbyn" every day must be a rabid Nazi. Apparently. 🙄

1. Broadband obviously isn't as vital as electricity, which is obvious if you think about it for a moment. 2. If it is, why not offer free electricity?

Policies are often "popular" - until you ask people to consider their implications. (Not something they were really asked to do in 2016, for example.)
000
Citizen K @primeshade.bsky.social · 24/07/2025
If Corbyn's policies were so popular, how the bloody hell did Theresa May beat him in 2017?
000
Citizen K @primeshade.bsky.social · 24/07/2025
It is genuinely baffling - when there are so many genuinely deserving recipients of such a title - that you choose to bestow it upon some insignificant no-mark on Bluesky, simply because you disagree with them. I'm afraid you have revealed yourself as a deeply unserious person.

OK - those are perfectly legitimate and interesting arguments. Thank you, and have a good evening.

Bond investors, quite obviously. No-one is seriously suggesting a country is like a household. Thatcher's "housewife budget" and Cameron's "maxed out credit card" analogies were patently ludicrous. But to argue that the UK's creditors have no influence over its economy is equally risible.

What is your proposed solution? Please dial down the verbal abuse for a bit - I really would like to know.

"Fucking melon" is pretty childish. Also, still no substantial answer to this question:
100
Citizen K @primeshade.bsky.social · 24/07/2025
You act as if *Corbyn* had no agency in all this. It's so weird that all his fans still point to "his" policies being popular, while claiming that all the unpopular ones were nothing to do with him. As I said: he never was - and never will be - a leader.

Citizen K @primeshade.bsky.social · 24/07/2025
One last time: The OP - sadly blocking me now (oh well) - complained that people never criticise Corbyn's policies; they just resort to childish insults. So I criticised some of his policies... and received a bunch of childish insults. How exactly is that point "stupid"?
000
Citizen K @primeshade.bsky.social · 24/07/2025
Playing the "neutral" card on the most divisive issue in UK politics was a spectacular own goal. I really don't see how anyone could argue that it was a smart move?

Citizen K @primeshade.bsky.social · 24/07/2025
I'm sure you have the intellectual capacity to understand the simple point I'm making. I honestly don't understand why you would pretend otherwise?

Citizen K @primeshade.bsky.social · 24/07/2025
So is it working yet? Have you won power by calling everyone who dares to disagree with you a "twat"? Nope, thought not.

As for the "name calling" (see OP), I'd cite a particularly unpleasant reply I once received on Twitter suggesting that, unless I fully supported Jeremy Corbyn, I "might as well kick a homeless person in the face". I honestly don't think any political faction has a monopoly on playground insults.
100
Citizen K @primeshade.bsky.social · 24/07/2025
I don't know where you've got that from. I don't think I deserve any "respect" at all. I just don't think it's unreasonable to expect to engage in a political debate without being called a "twat" or a *fucking melon". So given the OP's complaint, I find the replies in this thread somewhat ironic.

= Higher inflation.

Citizen K @primeshade.bsky.social · 24/07/2025
FFS, here we go again... It's great that Corbyn got 40% of the popular vote in 2017. But Theresa May got over 42% - the Tories' highest vote share in 30 years. Why do you suppose THAT happened?? And why you all seem to think I'm a paid-up member of the Starmer fan club is beyond me. Can you read?
100
Citizen K @primeshade.bsky.social · 24/07/2025
Again, I refer you to the OP (who, naturally, has now blocked me). If you can't handle different perspectives and debate like an adult then I'm afraid you're part of the problem. But keep calling everyone who disagrees with you a "twat". I'm sure that will work eventually. 🙄
100
Citizen K @primeshade.bsky.social · 24/07/2025
I was literally quoting the OP. If you don't like that word, take it up with them. Enjoy your echo chamber. 👍

Citizen K @primeshade.bsky.social · 24/07/2025
My God, this is hard work. 🤦‍♂️ I would always prefer any version of the Labour party to any version of the Tories. But I also knew, even in 2015, that a Corbyn-led iteration would never win a general election. You're free to tell me I was wrong, but I'm afraid I do have reality on my side.

Citizen K @primeshade.bsky.social · 24/07/2025
This literally all started when I responded to someone complaining that people don't criticise Corbyn's policies; they just resort to childish insults. So I criticised his policies - and have been met with childish insults. Over to you.
100
Citizen K @primeshade.bsky.social · 24/07/2025
At some point, it would be nice if you could stop resorting to verbal abuse and maybe calm down a bit? I expect these insults from Farage/Trump supporters on X but I generally have higher expectations when talking to people on the left. Perhaps that's naive of me though. 🤷‍♂️

How would borrowing £58 billion for WASPI compensation constitute "investment in key infrastructure" please?
000
Citizen K @primeshade.bsky.social · 24/07/2025
I'm not sure arguing that gilt rates stayed low after a decade of Tory austerity is quite the win you think it is. Pal.
000
Citizen K @primeshade.bsky.social · 24/07/2025
Ironic that this all started because I responded to a post complaining about "name calling", the OP blocks me, and then you pitch up with that reply. Dear me - I wonder why your guy lost two elections??
100
Citizen K @primeshade.bsky.social · 24/07/2025
Did I say that? (Clue: no.) Borrowing rates were historically low when Osborne was in office. There was no need to "balance the books" - as if any government in modern history has really wanted to do that anyway. This is such a silly false dichotomy that I'm not sure it's worth bothering with.

Citizen K @primeshade.bsky.social · 24/07/2025
You read this, non-Starmer boy?
100
Citizen K @primeshade.bsky.social · 24/07/2025
If you can educate me as to how another £58bn of borrowing in 2019 would have worked out just fine, I'm all ears.

"It's always just name calling" 🤔
000
Citizen K @primeshade.bsky.social · 24/07/2025
And for all that Grace Blakeley and her ilk insisted that the 2019 election was "not about Brexit", a reasonably intelligent 12-year-old could see that it clearly was. Taking a wilfully neutral stance on it was (somehow) both cowardly and reckless. Corbyn never was - and will never be - a leader.
100
Citizen K @primeshade.bsky.social · 24/07/2025
I can tell you that literally *no-one* I spoke to in 2019 thought free broadband was a winner. Apart from it being totally impractical, the general reaction was: "Why broadband? Why not water? Why not gas? Why not electricity?" Plus, of course: "Nothing is really free." Which, of course, it isn't.
100
Citizen K @primeshade.bsky.social · 24/07/2025
How might one square criticising the mini-budget for spiking gilt rates due to its unfunded tax cuts with McDonnell's (pre-pandemic) WASPI pledge? Assuming Corbyn would have been at least as happy to dish out furlough money in 2020, where do you suppose the debt/GDP ratio would be now?
100
Citizen K @primeshade.bsky.social · 24/07/2025
1 out of 3? Hmm, OK. I did think of labelling those responses x, y and z but I thought that might be a bit facetious. However:

Citizen K @primeshade.bsky.social · 24/07/2025
- Pledging £58bn for WASPI compensation was as fiscally reckless as the Truss mini-budget. - Offering free broadband was neither affordable nor particularly popular. - Adopting a 'neutral' position on Brexit in 2019 was electoral suicide.
