Hey, @straczynski.bsky.social - I know you don't drive, but were you aware that Aston's Martin's new supercar is called (honest, not a joke, this really is the name) the Valen? The temptation to make a joke about it being a version of a Sinclair C5 is considerable...

A key unanswered question from this morning's speech by Andy Burnham - if "No. 10 North" goes ahead, will @number10cat.bsky.social have to commute between the two venues, or will a new Chief Mouser be appointed for the Northern office? ...and if the latter, can I suggest that they're called Lowry?

A new "One More Issue" Project commission, based on the idea that the Golden Age heroes had one final adventure in the 1940s - Doctor Fate battles the Spectre's foe Kulak in a fantasy cover to More Fun Comics #99, as drawn by Robert Jones (homaging Marie Severin's cover to Strange Tales #158).

A fantasy More Fun Comics cover - the Golden Age Doctor Fate, in his half-helmet, is trapped in rings of magical force by Kulak, foe of the Spectre. One of the Stonehenge megaliths can be seen in the background, while sands run through an hourglass in the foreground. A title reads "The Sands Of Death".

The cover to Strange Tales #158 shows Doctor Strange trapped in rings of magical force by the Living Tribunal, with a megalith from Stonehenge in the background and sands running through an hourglass in the foreground. A title reads "The Sands Of Death!".

A new commission from @hotelfred.bsky.social - what if Quality Comics published a 103rd issue of Police Comics starring Plastic Man (it became a cops-and-detectives title with that issue) - and had also managed to do a deal with DC to use Golden Age Superman villain The Prankster as Plas' foe?

Back in 2018 I was in contact with Vince Argondezzi, and he was kind enough to share some of his unpublished #InfinityInc material, including two cover designs (one penciled, one just a layout). I've had Bambos Georgiou work both of them up into final covers for me - and I think they look great!

One for the #JSA fans: I picked this up from my framer yesterday afternoon - Mike Machlan depicts the Justice Society battling Solomon Grundy, drawn (I think) in the late 1990s, and now hanging on my wall. Machlan was an exceptional talent, and I'm absolutely delighted to own this.

A new commission: what if Comic Cavalcade starred super-heroes for one further issue (#30) before it turned into a funny-animal series - and what if Flash, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern (plus Mr Terrific) appeared in a book-length story? Art by John Howard, from the Kirby/Wood Avengers #20 cover.

Golden Age Batman foe the Cavalier throws Mr Terrific from the top of an under-construction skyscraper, with his hands tied behinds his back. The Golden Age Flash, Green Lantern and Wonder Woman look up in horror from below as he falls.

Comic cover showing a dinosaur attacking the Shining Knight, who is holding an unconscious Firebrand whilst fighting off the dinosaur with his sword.

I know it's May 1st, and therefore no longer #JSApril, but I'd totally overlooked this fantasy alternate cover for All-Star Squadron #67, featuring the Justice Society - adapted by Bambos Georgiou from a Jerry Ordway page in America vs the JSA, and coloured by Rich Seetoo. ...so here it is!

Mock comic cover - Hawkman, Green Lantern and Doctor Fate fly above the Spectre, Sandamn, Flash, Hourman and the Atom (who is carrying a banner marked "For America And Democracy".

#JSApril, day 30: and finally, my personal favourite JSA commission, art by Val Semeiks, based on an unused layout for the back cover of the "DC 2000" series which I saw after Val posted it (and other unpublished ideas) on his website, and featuring the pre-1944 members of the team, plus Hawkgirl.

John Joshua @prestwichjosh.bsky.social · 29/04/2025

#JSApril, day 29: a recreation (kinda) of the cover to the All-Star Squadron Preview featuring the Justice Society, drawn by Chris Kohler and coloured by Rich Seetoo. "Kinda" because it's adapted from the re-inked version (in All-Star Squadron #50) which swapped in Starman for the Shining Knight.

Comic cover featuring the Justice Society (Green Lantern, Superman, Johnny Thunder and his Thunderbolt, Dr Mid-Nite, Flash, Hawkman, Wonder Woman, Atom, Starman, Doctor Fate, Spectre, Batman and Sandman) running towards the viewer, in front of a scene of Washington DC and a US flag.

John Joshua @prestwichjosh.bsky.social · 28/04/2025

#JSApril, bonus: back in 2018 I was in touch with Vince Argondezzi before he sadly died, and he was generous enough to send me scans of some unpublished material, including this rough of his proposal for the cover of Infinity Inc #44. It wasn't used - but I think it would have made a great cover!

Rough sketch of an unpublished cover for Infinity Inc #44 - a close-up of Fury's face as she's menaced by the Silver Scarab.

John Joshua @prestwichjosh.bsky.social · 28/04/2025

#JSApril, day 28 - @peterclintonart.bsky.social draws the members of Infinity Inc and friends re-enacting the cover of All-Star Squadron #31 (and yes, I *know* Hector Hall appears as both the Silver Scarab and his short-lived later identity as the Sandman - my commission, my choice of characters).

Mock comic cover: Skyman points at the viewer, while Silver Scarab, Huntress, Jade, Hourman, Mr Bones, Dr Midnight, Obsidian, Sandman, Jonni Thunder, Fury, Brainwave, Nuklon, Wildcat, Jonni Thunder's Thunderbolt form, Power GIrl and Northwind run forward.

0126

John Joshua @prestwichjosh.bsky.social · 27/04/2025

#JSApril, day 27 - Bambos Georgiou draws the Justice Society in a Golden Age Gallery reimagination of a Sal Buscema pin-up of the Avengers, originally his try-out piece for the team, before being used as the cover of an issue of Marvelmania magazine and then printed in an Avengers Treasury edition.

Pin-up of the Justice Society, featuring Doctor Fate, Starman, Hawkman, Wonder Woman, Dr Mid-Nite, Spectre, Johnny Thunder, Atom and Sandman.

Pin-up of the Avengers, featuring the Vision, Black Knight, Thor, Wasp, Yellowjacket, Iron Man, Goliath, Black Panther and Captain America.

John Joshua @prestwichjosh.bsky.social · 26/04/2025

#JSApril, day 26 - two more "Untold Tales Of Infinity Inc" commissions, art by Luis Rivera, based on Avengers #176 (original art by Romita Jr & Austin) and New Warriors #10 (original art by Bagley & Mahlstedt). These are the last in this series thus far - but I have plans for around a dozen more.

Mock comic cover - Jade, the Silver Scarab, Fury, Brainwave, Obsidian, Nuklon and Northwind face a glowing figure (the Atoman, from the Superman radio series of the 1940s).

Mock comic cover - six members of Infinity Inc (Obsidian, Fury, Silver Scarab, Jade, Nuklon and Northwind) are defeated by Osira.

John Joshua @prestwichjosh.bsky.social · 25/04/2025

#JSApril, bonus - all 4 issues of the 2003-2005 Spanish comic "Circulo Justiciero", featuring analogs of the JSA: The Living Flame (GL), Tomahawk (Hawkman), Crimson Lama (Spectre), Wizard King (Dr Fate), Dynamo Dwarf (Atom), Spark (Flash), The Fog (Sandman) and Target (Hourman, sort of).

142

John Joshua @prestwichjosh.bsky.social · 25/04/2025

#JSApril, day 25 - what if three members of the JSA had appeared in one more issue in the 1940s? Mock covers for All-Flash #33 (by the Fraim Bros); Green Lantern Comics #39 (by Bambos Georgiou); and Sensation Comics #107 (by Larry Guidry) - based on Flash #114, Green Lantern #16, and Ms Marvel #6.

Mock cover for All-Flash #33, with the Icicle creating an ice-patch on which the Golden Age Flash is running without moving.

Mock comic cover for Green Lantern Comics #39 - the Golden Age Star Sapphire blasts the Alan Scott Green Lantern.

Mock Comic cover for Sensation Comics #107 - Solomon Grundy holds an unconscious Wonder Woman over his head, with flames burning around them.

John Joshua @prestwichjosh.bsky.social · 24/04/2025

#JSApril, day 24 - Justice Society members the Flash, Green Lantern and Wonder Woman (plus one of the Blackhawks) attempt to stop the War Wheel's path of destruction! Commission art by Mitch Ballard.

#JSApril, day 23 - two more "Untold Tales Of Infinity Inc" commissions, both drawn by Luis Rivera, and adapted from John Byrne's cover to Alpha Flight #27 and George Perez's cover to JLA #195. The second cover features a previously-unseen incarnation of the Injustice Society, led by Vandal Savage!

Mock comic cover - the Wizard holds an unconscious Fury in the air, threatening the Silver Scarab and exiling Jade through a magical portal.

Vandal Savage's Injustice Society team (Spirit King, Spectrum, the Dummy, Star Sapphire, the villainous Huntress, Thinker, Sportsmaster and Ramulus) observe images of Infinity Inc (Nuklon, the heroic Huntress, Jade, Silver Scarab, Fury, Star-Spangled Kid, Northwind, Obsidian, Brainwave and Power Girl).
