This appears to be pretty standardized at this point. For a while now we've seen Russian soldiers with shotguns accompanying air defense assets when they move out of their covered position. This is done to protect against the small Ukrainian FPV drones.

Russia has removed and arrested multiple commanders from the 3rd Army who were faking battlefield success and hiding their losses. The commanders were found to stage events that made it seem like they were taking new settlements which were actually far behind the front.
