This one speaks for itself, but, it's worth repeating. A lot. Release the Epstein files. Donald Trump is a Rapist and Convicted Felon. All good art is political. There is none that isn’t— It reflects who is centered, who is erased, and what a culture deems worthy of attention. #Trump #Art #AltText

I found this gem today. Gray Tree by Piet Mondrian c. 1911 Oil on Canvas, 79.7 x 109.1 cm Piet Mondrian, (1872 – 1944) Dutch painter & art theoretician, regarded as one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. #Cubism #Art #AbstractArt #Abstract #PietMondrian #ArtSky #Gray #Tree #AltText

$The artwork “Gray Tree” by Piet Mondrian, created in 1911, exemplifies the Cubist art movement with its geometrical abstraction and simplified color palette. This oil on canvas measures 79.7 by 109.1 cm and presents a landscape genre, specifically a tree, which is a departure from the usual subjects of cubism. The artwork is housed in the Gemeentemuseum den Haag located in The Hague, Netherlands. “Gray Tree” showcases an abstract representation of a tree, characterized by the use of monochromatic grays, fractured elements, and a flattened perspective, traits commonly associated with Cubism. Each segment of the tree and the spaces around it is delineated with thick, bold strokes of varying shades of gray. The tree’s branches are simplified into a lattice of geometric lines intersecting and overlapping, creating a dynamic tension within the composition. This artwork reflects Mondrian’s transitional phase as he moved towards pure abstraction, evidenced by the minimal representation of natural detail and the emphasis on the rhythmic pattern created by the branches. Artwork Information Title Gray Tree Artist Piet Mondrian Date 1911 Medium Oil on Canvas Dimensions 79.7 x 109.1 cm Art Movement Cubism Current Location Gemeentemuseum den Haag, Hague, Netherlands$

Back To School Bauhaus Style My favorite part of this was the "Uphill Both Ways" we all heard from our parents when we were young and whiney. #Art #Bauhaus #BackToSchool #GraphicArt #PosterArt #Geometric #Abstract #Illustration #Vector #AltText #GeometricWallArt #Red #Yellow #Blue

The word Bauhaus hangs in the top-left above black rectangles with colored triangles (red, yellow, blue) at one end, resembling pencils.

Bottom left: Grey squares and one yellow square out of it's place, on a red field.

Middle center: Blue circles on a yellow field.

Middle right: Two Bauhaus bicycles riding "up hill both ways" on a yellow triangle, to school on a light blue background.

More pencils finish out the bottom of the image. All on a light cream colored background.

Today's illustration: The "F51 Armchair" designed by Walter Gropius. Brown wooden frame and yellow fabric. Full story in Alt Text #Art #GraphicArt #PosterArt #ArtSky #ArtYear #Geometric #Bauhaus #AltText

Director's office in Weimar C. 1924 (featuring the F51 Armchair)
Photo by Lucia Moholy, hand coloured print

The Director's Office in Weimar, 1924

Doesburg criticised the "honeycomb building" in his 1922 lecture "From New Aesthetics to Material Realisation". Cobbling together a series of building cells, he argued, could not be equated with "formative architectural design". It was this "formative architectural design" that played a central role in the conception of the director's office, completed in 1924. The room, which was reconstructed in 1999, is an homage to the square; Klaus-Jürgen Winkler and Gerhard Oschmann have shown that Gropius transformed the room, which was originally larger and higher, by using partitions and a suspended ceiling to create a cube measuring five metres by five metres. The expansive lamp, in which Gropius again addressed the theme of the cube, refers to a model by the De Stijl artist Gerrit Rietveld, while all the furnishings—from the carpet to the light-ing-echo the square.

In the ensuing years, this austere sense of order, also documented in an isometric diagram, was abandoned in favour of more flexible interiors. The masters' houses are an example of this. In 1922 Gropius developed a hierarchical theory of space: first it was necessary to come to terms with tangibly material space and then with mathematically constructed space, in order to ultimately reach transcendental space. Only by coming to terms with these three dimensions was it possible to create artistic space.

In formulating a justification for this spatial theory, Gropius referred to Grunow, Itten, and Le Corbusier. The director's office can be seen as a demonstration of his theory.
