Sometimes I get asked how I paint metal, so here's tutorial on how I stylize metal! The focus of today's tutorial is gold, featuring Kulve Taroth and her golden horns! (Right click images + "view in new tab" for full size) [ 🎨 #art #tutorial #arttutorial #mhart #kulvetaroth ]

Page 1 of the Gold Shading tutorial, featuring a reference image of Kulve Taroth from Monster Hunter! Step 1: Recolor the lineart to a dark red and set an orange-yellow color for the base gold color. Step 2: On a clipping mask layer, add a subtle gradient in a darker orange color. Step 3: On a clipping mask layer set to multiply and ~80% opacity, use a hard brush to block in the shading color. Use a saturated dark red to accentuate the colors in the shadows. Step 4: Using a combination of the blend tool (NOT the blur tool), layer brush strokes, and the eraser, soften some of the edges of the shading layer and add little details such as scratches and texture.

Use a saturated dark red to accentuate the colors in the shadows. Step 8: Add some finishing touches. Add more scratches, deepen the color contrast, airbrush different colors on overlay or hard light, and recolor the lineart. And you're done!
