Harassment: press codes restrict persistent, unwanted contact from journalists, repeated calls, door-stepping, following, or intimidation. Once someone makes clear they don't want to speak to the press, continuing to pursue them can cross into harassment, however newsworthy the story.

Press abuse doesn't just hit individuals. Businesses & organisations can face inaccurate stories, unfair deadlines, or selective quotes too. You have the right to fair reporting, and options beyond "no comment." PJP can help. buff.ly/jFRdTWJ

MYTH: A correction fully fixes the damage of an inaccurate story. REALITY: Corrections matter but don't undo everything. The original may have spread widely; people recall the first version, not the update. Corrections show accountability, but accuracy from the outset matters even more.

An Adjudication is the formal outcome issued when a complaint against a publisher is upheld. While a complaint might be resolved privately in other cases, an adjudication is a public acknowledgement that standards weren't met, making it an important tool for accountability. #Accountability

MYTH: Ethical journalism slows reporting down. REALITY: Ethical journalism makes reporting stronger. Speed matters, but accuracy, fairness, verification, and accountability matter more. The journalism people trust is not always the first published. It is the journalism that gets it right.

MYTH: Once a story is published, that’s the end of it. REALITY: There may still be ways for individuals to challenge inaccuracies, or seek other forms of redress. Trust in the media depends not only on the freedom to publish, but also on the willingness to acknowledge and put right any mistakes.

Prominence is about how easy a correction or apology is to find If a news story receives significant attention, many argue that any correction should be given similar visibility. A correction that few people see may not effectively address the original error. #Journalism #MediaEthics #PressAbuse

❄️ A chilling effect occurs when journalists are pressured to report on an issue a certain way, or avoid it altogether. Whether through influence, threats, or fear of consequences, the result is often less scrutiny, less accountability, and a less informed public.

In journalism and media law, the “public interest” can sometimes be used as a defence in legal cases where information is published that could have affected someone’s rights, such as their privacy. The question to ask is: Was it really in the public interest to release this information?
