its wild to me that I've been shipping code nonstop for the past 10+ years and more. Whether its for work or personal side projects, I'm always tinkering and building things. People have told me that hobbies that turn into work is not a great idea but it has so far worked really good for me. :)

What are terrible game ideas I can build with AI in a day or two. Thinking about making a video on it haha

I’m sure a bunch of people will still use the cli and build their own harness but it will be similar to how most engineers used ide vs vim in the past. If you don’t believe me just look at OpenAI. They open sourced codex cli but not the app. 3/3

More and more features are app only now, and I think it will continue. The apps are becoming the moat and I find it hard to migrate off even if a different model is better. 2/3

Hot take, I’ve been thinking cli usage will dramatically drop in the coming years and majority of people will migrate over to the harness apps like Codex App or Claude app. 1/3

Your vibe coded app probably looks like every other vibe coded app. Here is how you can fix it. I wrote and made a video about how you should can add animations into your app using AI. Check it out! Also below is a quick cheatsheet! 1/2

Would y'all consider an AI Assistant being in a different category to AI Agents?

Key learnings from my time at Vid Summit - hard decisions lead to an easy life and easy decisions lead to a hard life. - delaying a hard conversations is costing you greatly. I chase after hard conversations. - the journey is more important than the destination 1/2

I’m happy that more companies are moving their apps to native codebases. Now, If they can also just have more designers to give me some android specific design instead of second hand iOS designs that would be lovely. 😭

Just crossed 40K on YouTube :) It’s been a journey and a fun hobby to make videos. I’m actually a vidsummit right now learning more about content creation. Excited to continue to learn and grow. Onwards to a 100K subs and then a million!

I didn’t know I was an artisanal builder that has been chiseling code by hand until AI. I should have charged more for that farmers market code I wrote by hand.

My best friends were all gamers as well and most of them became SWEs, and through their encouragement and mentorship I decided to quit my job to do a bootcamp. Playing video games were the best decision I’ve ever made. Beside marrying my wife haha. 2/6

Video games are a waste a time. At least this is what people told me when I was growing up, but honestly video games are why I’m an engineer today I don’t have a CS degree but I’ve always been good with computers because of video games. 1/6

We need a graph for abandoned side projects since AI coding. When a new idea is just a prompt away to prototype I find myself chasing multiple ideas that I end up throwing away. Having diligence to find an idea to work on for the long term is getting really hard.

Do you still need to read every line of AI code? here is how I'm reviewing code these days • leaf vs. trunk code concept • agentic validation • proof in every PR • independent agent reviews • feature gating I covered it in more detail on my latest video :) 1/2

You and the organization you work in just operates differently based on these fundamental differences. IMO this creates fragmented experiences and honestly a lot of the discourse online is based on these different lived experiences. random shower thought haha. 3/3

Most AI labs are operating at a minimum one or two cycles ahead of most developers. I would also go as far as to say companies that essentially give unlimited tokens to their engineers are also operating a cycle ahead of people who has limited token access. 2/3

When you see new information that challenges your existing views, the right thing to do is to change your mind. This is how I feel about people flip flopping on AI takes. 1/3

I’m starting to not care that much about new model releases. I don’t really have an urge to go and try all of them out right away. Not sure if something changed from my side or if I’m already pretty happy with where ai coding was already.

I think the same applies to everything else I’m working on. newsletters, side projects, whatever it is. Find a few things you have conviction in. Keep working on them and see them through. Great things are hard to build if you’re constantly starting over. 3/3

There will always be another idea, another opportunity, another shiny new thing to chase. Exploration is important, but once you have real conviction in something, you need to give it a chance to succeed. It took me 8 years of making YouTube videos before one finally took off. 2/3

There’s nothing quite like working on a few things consistently over a long period of time. The hard part isn’t finding things to work on. It’s deciding what not to work on. 1/3

If it wasn’t for making content I don’t think I would spend as much time as I do digging into new and interesting things. In AI. “That would be a fun video to make” leads to so much learning that has genuinely helped my career. 1/2

So if you had these two elements 1. perfect game state 2. bot code that knows how to play the game already Then Jev is the perfect decision maker to give commands to the bot. 3/3
000
John Kim @premiumgoblin.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
I'm essentially trying to recreate the game state from pixel data of key elements of the game and have Jev just make decisions on what to do next. The issue is even if it decides what to do next I'll need an entire bot code that handles playing the game itself. 2/3

John Kim @premiumgoblin.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
I've been seeing a lot of fake looking demos online of people using Jev to play video games perfectly in real time. I'm hella suss'd by the demos so i'm trying to build one right now. So far its kind of shit tbh especially since I don't have raw game state from WOW. 1/3

For Jev the cost is one thing but the killer feature is speed!

John Kim @premiumgoblin.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
First thing that came to mind for me when I heard Jev. lol
000
John Kim @premiumgoblin.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
Jev is the new thing we need to look at now? Seems like a really fast and cheap switch board. I would guess it will probably lose out on long reasoning and complex tasks. Either way more things to dig into over the weekend :)

John Kim @premiumgoblin.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
Are people finally tired of “thinking” in AI and just want results instantly :)? Maybe next year the big thing will be on speed of inference vs cost.
