Olof Lindberg and Alexander Santillo have published the first experimental functional imaging study addressing this question in a study that required persistence to perform (due to that these patients are hard to find and work with, it took more than ten years). jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...

Patiens with prefrontal lobe dementia sometimes show a diminished empathy processing. As this is a big problem, especially for family and friends, we need to know more about it.
