I mean - the outbreak here is also almost exclusively localized to Lancaster County and the anti-vax Mennonite community there. Lancaster just has a *massive* density of those communities and then bleed over into the “English” who live around them.

My phone number is tangled with my dad’s, so I get these scams *constantly* and they’re all the same predatory bullshit. I get one every other day or so. Almost all of them are the same TTS voice with different names and “banks.”

Wandering back outside, there's Heath Ledger again (and apparently Anne Hathaway, too, thanks @bluebelletrist.bsky.social). I do kinda love how the Continental soldiers on one wall are aiming their rifles directly at Heath and Anne on the other... well thought out, there, #FreedomTruck.

At the back is a mirror - only at the height of a standing adult - that has the text "America's Next Hero!" underneath. In most museum settings, you'd expect a second "kids and wheelchair users" height mirror.... but the #FreedomTruck doesn't disappoint even with it's final panel.

Beside the video in the #FreedomTruck is the interactive "Wall of American Heroes" with a *certain* American featured dead-center (transcript in alt text). I grabbed photos of each flipper panel AND reveal text, have no fear. But I didn't stand there an read them all. I'm crazy, but not THAT crazy.

The Declaration of Independence has guided every American freedom movement and inspired many globally. Martin Luther King Jr. called it a "promissory note" guaranteeing liberty and equality for all. The Civil Rights Movement sought to hold the nation to that promise, challenging Jim Crow laws and segregation. In 1954, Brown v. Board of Education struck down school segregation, ruling that "such segregation is a denial of the equal protection of the laws."

The decision energized the Civil Rights Movement. Peaceful protests by King, Rosa Parks, and others led to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965, advancing the Declaration's promise of equality.

That speech later says, "What have I, or those I represent, to do with your national independence? Are the great principles of political freedom and of natural justice, embodied in that Declaration of Independence, extended to us?" He knows they weren't: the fundamental American contradiction.

Then below that stuff, there's this... portraying Douglass' 1852 "What to the slave..." speech as... pro-celebration? Douglass is being beautifully SNIDE in that whole speech, even when he appears sincere. At the end of the section they quote, he basically makes a Sally Hemmings joke, FFS.

"...the Civil War was fought to preserve the Union and to end slavery." This #FreedomTruck panel (full text in alt) tries to make it seem like Abolitionists were dominant from 1789 to 1860?! And it concedes the Civil War was about slavery, too - a concession only made when convenient, apparently.
Congress abolished the slave trade in 1807, but Southern interests defended the institution. Abolitionists looked to the Declaration of Independence in their efforts to oppose slavery. Under President Lincoln, the Civil War was fought to preserve the Union and to end slavery.
On January 1, 1863, Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, declaring enslaved people in rebellious states "free." The Union's victory, along with the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Amendments, secured freedom and citizenship for enslaved Americans and laid the foundation for the Civil Rights Movement in the twentieth century.

The #FreedomTruck juxtaposes Douglass & Garrison; Douglass "concluded - like Lincoln before him - that the Constitution was not pro-slavery." That's just not right. Douglass knew it was inherently pro-slavery... as did Lincoln. They just believed it could be fixed by amendment, not revolution.
THE FUGITIVE STORY SCULPTURE
The 1869 sculpture by John Rogers honors the abolitionist movement, and features John Greenleaf Whittier, Henry Ward Beecher, and William Lloyd Garrison. Garrison denounced the Constitution as a slave document, but his former protégé Frederick Douglass studied the document and concluded-like Lincoln before him-that the Constitution was not pro-slavery. The revival of that argument marked a turning point in the abolition movement.

The #FreedomTruck very much wants the country to be obviously and inherently antislavery. This panel is immediately adjacent to one about the contested creation of the Constitution, which famously didn’t include 3/5th of ANYTHING.
The American Founding is the greatest experiment in liberty the world has yet seen.
The Declaration of Independence recognized the "self-evident" truths that "all men are created equal" and equally endowed with fundamental rights. It would take the new nation nearly a century to fulfill these truths and secure these rights for a large segment of the American population. The Founders anticipated that slavery would decline and wither away, and many states began restricting and abolishing slavery. In the original draft of the Declaration, Jefferson called the slave trade a "cruel war against human nature itself." That language was removed to pass the Declaration, but the signers succeeded in establishing the principle of human equality that would drive slavery toward extinction.

There is just so much text in this truck… the exhibit is a classic “textbook on a wall” which is, of course, the MOST effective kind of museum exhibit ever made. #FreedomTruck
In June 1776, as the momentum for independence grew, the Second Continental Congress appointed a Committee of Five to draft a formal statement declaring America's independence. The committee consisted of Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Roger Sherman, and Robert R.
Livingston. The committee elected Thomas Jefferson to write the first draft. Jefferson asked Adams to take the lead, but Adams declined, giving several reasons: Jefferson was a Virginian, while Adams was from Massachusetts; Jefferson, a Southerner, would be better received; Adams
feared his own draft would face harsher scrutiny due to his outspoken support; and finally, he believed Jefferson had the superior pen.
Over seventeen days, Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence, with important input from Adams and Benjamin Franklin. They drew ideas from George Mason's draft of the Virginia Declaration of Rights. Congress cut a quarter of the text and made several important changes, including adding references to the "Supreme Judge of the World" and "divine Providence."
