Advance practice clinicians (our NPs, PAs, and Midwives) are the heart and soul of health care at PPLM. They walk patients through nerve-wracking and uncomfortable procedures with kindness and compassion and are the reason PPLM is so many patients’ favorite health care provider. THANK YOU APCs!

The change comes from a years-long collaboration between healthcare providers, professional organizations, and thousands of patients worldwide, with full implementation into international guidelines expected by 2028. (4/🧵)

Some common symptoms of PMOS can include: • irregular/absent periods • acne/oily skin • insulin resistance • excess facial and body hair • thinning hair/hair loss • weight fluctuation • fatigue • anxiety/depression • infertility/difficulty conceiving (3/🧵)
100
Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts @pplm.org · 23/05/2026
Why PMOS is a better name: • it decenters ovarian cysts, which are not a core symptom • it reflects that it is a hormonal and metabolic condition, not just reproductive • it is a more accurate representation of the condition, and aims to raise awareness and increase quality of care (2/🧵)
100
Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts @pplm.org · 23/05/2026
The name change is meant to better reflect the full-body impact of the condition. Why PCOS needed a rebrand: • the name centers ovarian cysts • it sounds like only an ovarian condition • the name is misleading, which limits understanding of the condition and can delay diagnosis (1/🧵)

Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts @pplm.org · 23/05/2026
PCOS is now PMOS! It's more than just semantics, the new name aims to help the more than 170 million people worldwide with the condition receive more accurate, timely, and effective care.🧵 You can get care for PMOS at any PPLM health center or via telehealth. Book an appointment at pplm.org.

On Trans Day of Visibility, we celebrate trans people, past, present, and future. Trans people have driven innovation, shaped culture, advanced science, and led movements for justice, often while fighting to simply be seen and safe. Today, we honor their achievements, resilience, and joy.

Q: Can a vasectomy prevent STIs? A: No. While a vasectomy is extremely effective at preventing pregnancy, it does not provide any protection against sexually transmitted infections. [7/🧵]
000
Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts @pplm.org · 02/02/2026
Q: Is it reversible? A: A vasectomy is considered a sterilization and is meant to be permanent. Reversing a vasectomy is an option, but it doesn't always work and is not always covered by insurance. These procedures can be costly and with no promise they will restore your fertility. [6/🧵]

Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts @pplm.org · 02/02/2026
Q: Does it work right away? A: No. It will take approximately 90 days after a vasectomy for ejaculate to be sperm-free. During that time, another form of birth control is necessary to prevent pregnancy. After 90 days, we will do a sperm analysis to make sure the vasectomy was successful. [5/🧵]
100
Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts @pplm.org · 02/02/2026
Q: What happens during the procedure? A: During the procedure, the small tubes called vas deferens are disconnected, preventing sperm from entering the semen* and causing pregnancy which can’t happen when there is no sperm to meet the egg. *This does not impact erectile function or ejaculation [4/🧵]

Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts @pplm.org · 02/02/2026
Q: Who is eligible? A: People with testes who are over 18 and interested in lifelong contraception [3/🧵]

Q: Why get a vasectomy? A: There are many reasons to get a vasectomy. - You & your partner want to permanently prevent pregnancy without worrying about daily or routine birth control methods - You don’t plan on having biological children - It's an affirming step for you in your gender identity [2/🧵]
