My favourite piece from @virtuosew's "Dreams of Amarna": the pointillist "Head of Ankhsenpaaten" (one of the daughters of Akhenaten and Nefertiti). Done in "layers of seed stitches in silk thread over a plain silk fabric", apparently.
A page from a book showing a photo of an embroidery. The embroidery depicts a bald-headed Egyptian girl, using many dots in different shades of brown, rather like a pointillist painting.

The cover of "Dreams of Amarna: Stitching an Egyptological Adventure" by Rachel Mary Wright. The cover shows an embroidery work by Rachel, depicting local Egyptian workers on the archaeological dig at Amarna in the 1930s.

One of my favourite parts of "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" is when the narrator fixes the slipping handlebar grip on his friend's bike by shimming it with a strip of aluminium cut from a beer can. "You can't fix fifty years of German engineering […] [Original post on mathstodon.xyz]

Al risk skeptic, circa yesterday: “okay yes Al can obviously solve unsolved math problems that have stumped mathematicians for decades, no one doubts that. But your talk about the possibility of unreleased models circumventing testing conditions to go rogue strike me as scifi”
