But I am not a lawyer and copyright law can be pretty blurry around the edges. Presumably the moviemakers have lawyers who told them this is ok, and then maybe we end up in court. Alternatively they say “SCP” in the marketing and then “Legally Distinct SCP” in the movie to skirt around this.

To my knowledge ShareAlike in CC BY-SA requires that derivative works must also include the same license, so it would trickle down. Ex. “SCP Wiki” under CC, so story on the wiki under CC, then movie based on the story under CC. Then copying the movie is legal and bad for the distributors.

@qntm.org went through something similar when he published There Is No Antimemetics Division, which started off as a SCP spinoff. He rewrote the story to remove the SCP Foundation and everything tangentially related to the SCP universe, changing plot elements as necessary to make it work.

The catch is that CC BY-SA (the license SCP uses) requires derivative works to use the same license. If they made a movie from any story using SCP material, the movie itself would need to have the same license, and people would be free to copy it and put it up on YouTube or what have you.

Skills degrade if you’re not using them, so a big chunk of carrier lifetime (I think rule of thumb is 1/3) is spent on training. 1/3 is spent in port for repairs and maintenance, and 1/3 is spent deployed. Note that being mobile and at sea is a big part of keeping carriers safe from attacks.

Every company that was planning on hiring them just got rugpulled, you think they’d fall for it again? If the govt can change the rules at any time no company will hire them if at all possible. The university doesn’t have much say in this.

He has his moments in between the death-defying terrors. In Eric it was mentioned that he was the Librarian’s assistant before Stuff Happened, and his life was pretty quiet then. After the Last Continent fiasco he cameos in Unseen Academicals but is implied to have settled down somewhat.

Nowadays Yujiro has gotten even bulkier and his skin has tended to appear darker. I’d argue that early Yujiro draws more from 80’s and 90’s action heroes like JCVD and his “demonic” attributes were not as heavily emphasized.
Yujiro frontal appearance as of Baki Rahen, 2026.

If anything the inspiration flows backwards. When he was first introduced, Yujiro was a lot skinnier, with less defined muscles and a lighter skin tone. His appearance here looks like it draws more from his popular “Son of Ogre” appearance (pic 2), which got nailed down closer to 2010.
Yujiro representative appearance in early “Baki the Grappler”, 1991-1999Yujiro instructing Baki on the finer points of hand-pocket iaido during their fight. Circa 2011.

All errors are my own, I am not a historian or a history major. But I thought that this was a weirdly specific question that lined up with a weirdly specific history class that I took, so I might as well answer it.

Sources: Paul Edward Dutton, Carolingian Civilization Brian Tierney, The Crisis of Church and State, 1050-1300 These are secondary sources aggregating primary sources which I have named. The Pepin notes come from Annales regni Francorum. Based on HIST 13003 taught by Prof. Jonathan Lyon.

It’s a fun time and with the new Chicago pope also strangely relevant. Great way to get some background for why the Founders really liked “separation of church and state”.

potso.bsky.social @potso.bsky.social · 02/05/2026
In any case, the Church doesn’t stop here. The real fun starts with the Investiture Controversy (can kings appoint bishops?) and popes using excommunication to topple kings. HRE Henry 4 had to go on his knees for three days in a blizzard while barefoot to beg Pope Gregory 7’s forgiveness.

So from this viewpoint, how Charlemagne got made emperor is about how it “should have” happened - either he was approved by the existing political elite (church leaders) or he was chosen by popular acclamation (good for sounding legit and difficult to morally argue against).

potso.bsky.social @potso.bsky.social · 02/05/2026
Mind that at this point, the Roman Empire is (depending on your viewpoint) 350 years dead, or 800 miles east and in a succession crisis. Diocletian had declared the right of the emperor to take power without the Senate’s approval back in 300, and the Roman Senate itself was at least 100 years dead.

More likely church leaders saw a chance to tie their patch of Italy (otherwise at the mercy of whatever powerful kingdoms came knocking) to the biggest, most powerful kingdom, with an extra coat of political legitimacy by invoking the name of the Roman Empire.

potso.bsky.social @potso.bsky.social · 02/05/2026
The truth probably lies outside all of these. Charles’ reluctance to become emperor is likely a patriotic fiction. Claims of an organic or divinely-inspired groundswell of popular support should be treated with suspicion.

The Vita Caroli Magni depicts Charles as unwilling to accept the title of emperor, stating that he would not have entered the church if he knew what the pope had planned, implying he was crowned by surprise.

The Annales Laurissenses says much the same as the Vita Leonis 3, but with less detail.
100
potso.bsky.social @potso.bsky.social · 02/05/2026
The Vita Leonis 3 claims that as Charles was being crowned in St. Peter’s Basilica, the people, moved by divine inspiration, universally acclaimed him as emperor, and so he became emperor by popular acclamation.

potso.bsky.social @potso.bsky.social · 02/05/2026
The Annales laureshamenses claim that as the previous Byzantine emperor had died and a woman (Irene) claimed the throne, the Pope, church leaders, and the populace believed that Charles should be emperor, as he held Rome and its surroundings. Thus Charles submitted to a popular petition.

The Franks and the Catholic Church are now tied pretty closely together in terms of legitimacy. When Stephen replaces Zacharias, he re-confirms Pepin and kings and also anoints his sons Charles (Charlemagne) and Carloman.

Pepin eventually wins out, gets named king by the normal Frankish political process, and is anointed king by Zacharias. Childeric is banished to a monastery.

potso.bsky.social @potso.bsky.social · 02/05/2026
Skip forward a few hundred years, Pepin the Short and Childeric are contending for the Frankish throne, with Childeric being formally elected. Pepin does an end-run around Childeric by going to Pope Zacharias and getting him to declare Pepin rightful king instead.

The idea of kings being divinely selected is also well-attested in the Bible. Almost as soon as Constantine starts pushing Christianity, Christian writers like Eusebius are busy backfilling in proofs of Constantine’s piety and divine intervention in his favor.

potso.bsky.social @potso.bsky.social · 02/05/2026
Bishops and popes had a pre-existing precedent of anointing kings. The roots for this argument go back to Gelasius in his 494 letter to Anastasius, stating roughly “priesthood trumps kingship, do what we tell you”.

Unless you’re willing to start from a rotational point of view, there’s not much justification to map the square root of negative 1 to a 90 degree rotation until way down the line with trig and Euler’s identity.

… the square root of 2 exists. It’s an irrational number (not a ratio of integers) but you can measure out that distance physically by looking at the diagonal of a square.

If you go through his actual words in Japanese, what he’s saying translates more closely to “I left it all in one place / that place.” I think Oda has gone on record as saying that One Piece is a proper reward, not a “journey is its own reward” cop-out. But there are treasures beyond the physical…

Serious answer is prob no, except mana. From his FGO profile, “Projection C … A type of Magecraft that can recreate any item momentarily… the rank drastically increases if the item is in the “Sword” category.” From FGO mats book, defensive armaments like Rho Aias take 2-3x normal mana.

If there’s an AI that can answer those questions, we’ve moved pretty far into the “the entire economy is just run by AI” spectrum and the world is very different. Otherwise, I think most people are pretty decent at evaluating risk, and AI can’t do much to handle the unknown unknowns.

On the other hand, we see people taking on debt all the time to invest in themselves - student loans, home mortgages, starting a business - but the expected return on those investments is hard to evaluate or quantify.

Investment firms use debt as a financial tool to create leverage, but the principle is the same: their edge is in better researchers and models, they beat the market by understanding it better. Maybe in a world with super-AI this breaks down, but then the whole stock market needs rethinking.
