I don't have an answer but someone on my team at work is Russian and named Daniil and I've heard it pronounced both in a more Russian way and just as Daniel and at no point has he ever corrected anybody so I don't really know what to think lol

I'll entertain those questions as soon as we have a working definition of thinking, intelligence, sentience, or consciousness.

I have these same machines. They get the job done, and the jingle they play is pretty funny.

You could also just up unemployment so it's a wash financially for the unemployed.

Where does "All genders, and in fact all forms of categorization, are made up. Do what you want." get me.

I've wondered about the possibility of taking care of them for life but banning them from making money any other way.

Some people assume that because America does shitty things that anybody who fights against America is, at worst, misunderstood. In reality everybody directly promoting violence tends to be some shade of shit.

It also frames "being moderate" as a virtue in itself. Completely devoid of morality or policy. Turning being obstinate and contradictory into a political stance.

Does "rural America" even actually exist in any meaningful sense or are people just talking about conservative suburbs and exurbs?

You can "force" it in some specific ways or where things have changed enough to support it. The NHS is undeniably socialist and broadly works great for instance. I don't think you can just swoop in and magically make the world socialist, but I think it's where things will head naturally.

I don't mean it in a No True Scotland way, I mean I don't believe you can "force" the current world to be socialist any more than the world could have become capitalist in 1200AD. The society, technology, knowledge, naturally move economic systems. Policy just nudges it around a bit.

This feels like a misunderstanding of socialism as a political system rather than an economic system. I don't think socialism "prescribes" a policy any more than capitalism does. It describes an economic concept that can arise in a variety of ways, both natural and artificial.

Free Ph.D idea. Examination of porn size categories (I.E. chubby, BBW, big ass, big tits) and how changes in what videos get put into each category reflect changing beauty norms.

Humans will humanize and gender anything and everything. Chatbots are honestly one of the less weird things we've humanized given. They do at least "talk". Compare to boats, cars, appliances that annoy us, etc.

I'm not so sure. Biden is a committed pro-Israel politician but not sure Harris actually cares and might shift if she thinks the winds of change are blowing. Which is better than nothing I guess but not a glowing endorsement, and I don't think it makes her a viable candidate anyways.

Usually "tourist towns" don't have anything else keeping them going. Like why would you invest in building factories or other businesses in bumfuck nowhere vs a major metro area.

I've been wearing a $60 pair of boots for like 5 years. You would need your boots to last 25 years just to break even with the cheap pair. This is why the boots theory has some element of truth to it but ironically boots are probably not a case of it. Buying in bulk is a better example.

With government handling enterprises that are society wide or don't fit well into that competitive paradigm, such as law, fire, etc as well as rebalancing things when necessary by providing people with money.

Collective ownership of the means of production yes. Having a strong central government so that is one way but ownership, money, and capital are all abstract and can be handled in a variety of ways. I lean towards wanting employee ownership of enterprises rather than government. 1/2

And also either subsidize or make it easier to build stores in food deserts.

Honestly I don't know why we try all this fancy stuff when we could just give people more money. The government is one of the best entities for just moving money from A to B and should leverage that more often for equality issues. Just give money to people to buy food.

People can mostly afford food now, it's not actually a major policy issue in the United States. The only potential negative I see in a vacuum is the grocery margins are very thin and a government run store could drive small stores in the area out of business.

Yeah I think they could still end up being good for that reason. I'm just saying they aren't going to have the sweeping impact the person I was responding to believes.

Oh that was in the other thread. Here I am more commenting on the fact nothing of substance was said. Just derision. I think socialist policy is perfectly capable of standing on it's own without the dismissive vibes based attitude the online "socialists" have.

I didn't make arguments against them, nor am I angry. Literally all I said was I don't thing they are going to solve any major problems.

The person I replied to described it as fixing major problems in society. That is what I was responding to.

Potionseller @potionseller.bsky.social · 29/07/2026
I don't particularly care one way or another about government run grocery stores but nothing about them is really a central problem with society right now. I would expect it really doesn't actually change much of anything overall.

As a socialist it is rather embarrassing how many socialists, especially of the Internet variety, are allergic to actually grappling with policy.

I think the feeling from a lot of centrists in Americans is that Democrats have better politics but Republicans are better at governing day to day. Which is of course insane but explains the many states that have blue legislatures and red governors.

The whole "Fiscally Conservative but Socially Liberal" thing is really just immature baby-men who never moved past their teenage exclamations of "You aren't the boss of me!" or "Just leave me alone!"

I think there are specific circumstances where it could make a big difference though. That could be a down payment on a house, or wipe out medical debt or student loans, or pay for schooling. So it can be massively transforming but only if applied in certain ways.

Probably the first particle forming. Which it is interesting to think there had to have been a very first particle ever, and what a lonely existence that must have been for a picosecond before the second particle formed.

It doesn't have much practical important but it's important to continue to make a stink about bullshit. If McConnell is just a barely sentient husk then the Republicans enabling it need to be dragged endlessly and frankly probably charged with some kind of fraud.

Its basically always better and easier to just give everybody the same benefits and then collect it back in taxes on the back end. Like sure let millionaires get food stamps too who cares, just tax them more.

Pretty crazy for 1 in 4 Republicans to be saying to abolish ICE. Like I interact with more than 4 Republicans a day and imagining even one of them abolishing ICE seems crazy.

I've started walking for exercise at night and although I already knew it was bad it has still given me additional appreciation for just how fucked the roads are for pedestrians in most American cities. Some have made me audible say "Are you fucking kidding me?"
