Maryland Athletic Director Jim Smith spoke with @barrysvrlugawp.bsky.social about Coach Michael Locksley and a changing college football landscape.
Still, Jim, coaches are falling left and right. Will Michael Locksley be your coach in 2026?

“I would say this at any point in time, in any season — 7-0, 4-3,” Smith said. “You have to look at the whole body of work and ask: ‘Are we going in the right direction? Do we believe we have the talent and are going in the right direction?’ And I think that will determine itself here at the end of the year.”

The Commanders improved to 2-1 with a 41-24 win over the Raiders on Sunday. @scottsallen.bsky.social picked a few key moments.
Deebo Samuel Sr. provides a spark: The Raiders won the pregame coin toss and elected to defer, giving the Commanders the ball first. Samuel returned Daniel Carlson's opening kickoff 69 yards. The seventh-year receiver nearly had the first kickoff return touchdown of his career and Washington's first since DeAndre Carter in 2021.Jeremy McNichols breaks free: Late in the second quarter, McNichols took a handoff from Marcus Mariota, darted up the middle and took a big hit from former Commanders safety Jeremy Chinn. McNichols evaded two more tackles and outraced the rest of the Raiders defense for a 60-yard touchdown that was the longest run of his career.

The WNBA’s soaring popularity means more bets — and higher risks. The league’s recent embrace of sports gambling has raised concerns from some players and fans.
Text: Money wagered on the WNBA doubled at several top sportsbooks last season compared to the previous year. The league expanded its roster of sportsbook partners to seven, and three teams added their own betting sponsors.

But as it faces significant growing pains, including a rash of abuse toward players, the WNBA could be especially vulnerable to some of the dangers that can accompany increased gambling.Text: “The WNBA’s rise in popularity is something to be celebrated,” said Victoria Jackson, a professor of sports history at Arizona State.

But trying to grow even faster by encouraging gambling could inject toxicity into the league.

“That,” Jackson said, “has the potential to really suck.”
