Today's thrift store grand prize was... A $500 police scanner! It's missing a few accessories, but a power supply and a decent long-range antenna isn't more than $30 used. Free, if I ask my HAM radio loving dad. Not bad for $4.

I have no idea what this book I just found is about, but it's clearly the best book ever made.

A book cover from the 1970 sci-fi pulp novel "Bone People", depicting a retro spaceman standing before a huge (10ft at least) skeleton wearing a golden tunic with a black belt and shin-high boots. The skeleton giant is raising his right hand, probably in violence, towards the spaceman who is leaning back in probable terror.

The two are depicted on a red-tinted mountainous world, because most of space was apparently just Mars in the past. A bright round moon crests over the mountain ranges, positioned behind a large radar array beside conical buildings. A needle-shaped rocked with inexplicably backwards fins set midway on the fuselage flies overhead improbably.

At the top, the title "BONE PEOPLE" is written in a bold font that would feel at home in a Hanna Barbera sci-fi cartoon.

Truly an image fit for the side of a van fitted with only the plushest of lime green shag carpeting and the Highest of Fi stereos. Or a surf-punk band's self-titled album cover.

Another strange thrifting find from a couple days ago. A partially painted deer skull, which was in the housewares section of a Goodwill by some lamps. The clerk seemed genuinely glad I was taking it, so probably haunted. A perfect addition to my macabre little sister's cabinet of skulls.
