This article required a LOT of reading. I have to thank Richard Kadrey for help rounding up these books. jimmorton.substack.com/p/the-art-an...

They have my CWTAB book for sale at Suspiro Café on Folsom. It’s always a great place to shop for used records and get a cappuccino as well. They also have T. K. Rex’s The Wildcraft Drones. Check it out!

I've been studying desert horror lately. It looks like it will take me several articles to wade through this topic. open.substack.com/pub/jimmorto...

Here’s one for fans of 1950s sci-fi films. Influenced everyone from Roky Erickson to George Romero.

This time around: Brain transplants. I skipped the comedies for now. The article is long enough as it is. I still missed a couple though.

Here’s a freebie on my Substack. If you have a Roku box, the 1962 film is available now on their Classic Reels channel. open.substack.com/pub/jimmorto...

Okay, let’s try that again. Three movies about the three biggest bands at the time. The movies are as different from each over as they can be. Link in comments.

If Douglas Adams wrote a history of Germany, you might get something like this. The audiobook version is particularly good thanks to an excellent narrator. Available on Hoopla.

My landlady likes to give me food. I’m very grateful for this, but I’m clearly falling behind in my bean consumption.

Here are my most recent books. One is a novelization of a science fiction film, and the other is a mystery written in the style of a 1950s mystery Think Erle Stanley Garner or Frederic Brown). You can buy them on Amazon, but they also have copies at Café Suspiro in San Francisco (1246 Folsom St).

I was clicking though the movie list on Amazon, when I came across this. Colorized? The film was shot in Technicolor! What the hell does that mean?

Following up my 20 comic books, here's one that doesn't fall neatly into any category. One of my very favorite books by one of my very favorite cartoonists.

A post on FB had a cover image for “The Werewolf of Paris.” It made it look like it’s a romance novel. It really isn’t. It’s pretty sexy though. I read it as a teenager. I was *definitely* too young. Hammer did make a movie out of it titled THE CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF. Here’s the copy I had.

I just watched SILK 2, starring Monique Gabrielle. It’s quite bad and laugh out loud funny. I don’t regret watching it. It also stars Jan Merlin as the villain. He also stars as the villain in 1957’s RUNNING WILD alongside Mamie Van Doren.

My pal Wendy Van Dusen died recently. Besides fronting a few bands, she put out this zine. This has a cover by Coop (and an interview) and a short story by me. My favorite issue.

I was wondering which was the correct pronunciation of “presage”. It turns out each pronunciation has its own definition in the 2nd edition Merriam-Webster. 🤔

I hope some of you got to see the B&W version of GODZILLA -1.0. I went with a friend who reacted indifferently to the color version, but *loved* it in monochrome. I loved it both ways.

CORRUPTION is a weird little piece of British horror featuring the most sexist ad campaign this side of Yorkie chocolate bars. A fun example of late sixties psychedelic filmmaking. On Tubi.

I don’t know how I missed this one until now: RAGE (1966), starring a drunk Glenn Ford and a slutty Stella Stevens is fun, sleazy, overwrought film that is on Tubi right now.
