More than one new quartz countertop silicosis case every day. The California Dept of Public Health updated its dashboard today. Last week there were 644 cases. This week: 652. Cal/OSHA's emergency standard banning fabrication and installation of artifical stone products can't come fast enough.

Not really insane. The first rule of indoor air quality is to get rid of the source. For example remove the dirty diaper from the house. Don't try to mask the smell.

I have instructed 100s of people on making CR box air cleaners (corsirosenthalfoundation.org/instructions/). They are about $100 and easy to make (10 year olds can building them). Most importantly use air cleaners in a small rooms and close internal doors so the clean air stays in your room.

AQI of 851 in 2020?! 300 is bad. And this year is supposed to be 50 times more fireworks... with a potential inversion. I don't think consumer PM2.5 readings will be accurate on Saturday as the sensors will saturate. We see saturation impacts around 300-500 ug/m3 for WUI smoke.

This is an excellent example demonstrating that indoor reaction rates are the same order of magnitude as air change rates. If you lower the air change rate too much, chemicals have enough time to react. If you have a high enough ventilation rate, chemicals are swept outside before reactions.

Indoor Air 2026: Yik Chirt Teoh Modeled portable air cleaner placement in a neonatal room. The overall particle reduction ranges from 40-60%. The best location was the center of the room. Interesting, placing the air cleaner under a table did not degrade the performance.
