I saw them at their peak in the 80s, and I wasn't impressed. Hetfield is a remarkable vocalist and rhythm guitarist. I'll give him that. Otherwise, meh.

It's just Atlas Shrugged. They see themselves as John Galts. That novel played directly to the emotions of the weirdo with dreams of glory, and those are the guys at the heads of these companies today, chasing impossible dreams to fulfill their teenage fantasies. It's just Galt's Gulch in space.

Why don't Democrats just declare Lincoln as their own? Ditch Jackson and all the lousy Democrats, particularly the 19th century slaver and native-killing types. This would drive Republicans crazy and undermine one of their common tactics, pretending to have been the good guys over 100 years ago.

In 2016 with Trump they proved the concept and since then? A rush into A.I., data centers, etc. The whole point is to create a controlled "democracy" where the serfs choose feudalism. Conservatism aged out and Big Money turned to tech to undermine democracy. That's the agenda behind all this.

As it turned out modern social media allowed more efficient and effective mind control of voters, and the rise in computing power allowed the automation of propaganda.

I think that up until about 20 years ago the consensus was that the Republican Party and conservatism in the U.S. were coming to an end. Generationally those who grew up without the internet were aging out and every sign pointed to a more progressive population arising.

I can't believe I was so naive, but when Trump was going on about the birth certificate I thought it was all hilarious, that obviously no one would be taking him seriously. We were just clueless as to the depth of the stupidity present in Republican voters. I knew, but I still didn't somehow. 🤷

"Interesting times" may refer to half refusing to repeat past evils and the other half refusing to abandon traditions, even when those traditions are unjust and will obviously lead to disaster. It's the same for every species. Some who can adapt will survive, but losses will be enormous.
