Ex-PM, Jean Chretien has often said that the Clarity Act was his finest achievement. It's not perfect by any means, but it was designed by a geopolitical scientist who was PQ member, even the founder of the PQ Rene Levesque, recanted his vision and wanted "Beau risque" instead.

A vast "expensive" empire.

This now endangers the rest of Canada with it, as offering yourself to a hegemony without a finalized result in your own independence is one of the greatest risks you can make as a nation. If you offer your fingers to a wolf, they will not care how much of the hand they take with each bite.

If you cannot stomach the results of the failure when such brutal forms of punishment are administered then you should not be accepting of it's existence. This is not the first time this has happened and it won't be the last unless you are willing to change.

Nazi Germany was attempting to be a continental empire, so their plan was to eventually force the US into full isolation, starve it of resources, so they could break the US into pieces and ingest it. Anything they couldn't digest would be spat out and left to wither or become failed states.

We have the TMX, this isn't going to solve climate change. There is a crisis, it is just not here... It's in the Asian-Pacific. Fertilizer and energy shock is rocking them. These places were in a green transition and now are losing their momentum because of sleeper mass starvation. It is really bad.

This method of supply integration reduces prices across the continent. If you put a diesel ban in place, and others have to match it. Functionally the US is the biggest consumer by a large margin, it will lose money in this ban and the US will end up with an even bigger hole in it's debt pocket.

Diesel supply is not contained to singular areas and more importantly if you put an export ban on it, non-us will be force to alleviate fuel stress first via export bans too. A refinery in Canada supplies western provinces and US north west states. A refinery in New Brunswick, supplies to Maine.

What a great idea...the same guy who implemented the "DOGE" cuts is now going to make weapons for the US military. Drain circling moment for the US military. Cuts 20% of it's most qualified generals and officers, hires a ketamine abusing oligarch to run a military weapons program.

The good people of Maine should reject the 57 year old relatively scandal free candidate and re-elect the 73 year old scandal ridden one. She has been in office for nearly 29 years...the wealthy near octogenarian will do a great job for the State once again. Yes this is dripping with sarcasm.

Canada has the ability to create generic versions of prescriptions drugs after the patent fees lapse. If a company fails to pay, then labs in Canada can creates a generic version. Generic GLP-1 are now being made in Canada, pricing at roughly $88 CAD a month. That is $62 USD a month.

Wastes valuable political capital and time on a group of people that are a marginal representation of the US population, while allowing three major conflicts to continue unimpeded at the same time as massive internal damage is being done to his nation's ability to remain stable.

Building & transport costs are squeezing the production of new housing. This will lead to supply stocks not maintaining pace with demand which will cause housing shortages. Prices are already high, interest rates at 7% is not an exit point it's an entry gate for a weaker housing market.

On one hand the wife of the PM was just given a climate role, on the other she has a degree in Agricultural economics and international relations which makes her suitable, then on the third hand she served on the Shell Foundation. Then on the fourth hand she served on ClientEarth. Ambivalence...

Yes, but the labour unions are signaling government overreach on the right to strike and the environmentalists are upset about the erosion of climate policy. Can you not balance the BCSA more thoroughly?

Export ban is going to drive up the price of diesel inside the US. Buyers are going to swarm and stock up on as much product that is available at the lower rate. I've seen people hit themselves in the face but never at the same time as dropping an anvil on their heads.

The US government has been put into a fiscal bind in which they will need tariff funds to keep their books in the black after this current US admin. Mckinley Tariffs-> Wilson-Gorman Tariffs -> Dingley Tariffs -> Payne-Aldrich Tariffs took 20 years to resolve. They won't be going away soon.

Not sure why this guy is getting it wrong. It's a contract by the authority to allow private operation based on the investors ability to raise capital who then pay royalties to the authority while the investors keep the majority of returns. It is a cheap way to build but has drawbacks.

It would be a fully privatized model and the government acting as a land owner. Europe, Australia and UK, use models like this currently. Copenhagen Airport was just bought back from the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan in 2023. Personally not in favour, but also our airports are underfunded.

Any sort of membership will involve an advancing of labour standards, EU regulatory environmental practices and additional key provisions that Canada will have to meet. It's a prerequisite requirement that will be formed in negotiation to complete partnership.

Von Der Leyen is from the political party that co-assisted in ending the cold war, and represents a bloc of nations that put themselves back together after WWII over decades. The concept of a partnership of any kind would be a negotiated agreed terms between both parties. The offer is real.

One of the most critical things - is that we will have to better our standards to meet theirs in order for an associate membership to exist. That would be a huge win for our unions, our environmentalism and overall standards of living.

You mean the last sculpture that world renowned post-minimalist sculptor Joel Shapiro ever created and installed before he passed away? Tearing it down is like destroying what the Kennedy Center stands for, Joel's work is supposed to be metaphors for thought, what does tearing it down stand for?

Treaty of Canandaigua stipulates that it will be recognized as Lake Ontario. As per signed by President George Washington on November 11, 1794 and passed by Congress. That treaty was not written in pencil. It was signed in ink on parchment. Thanks for the free tourism for Toronto.

They all are which is in fact the problem. Whether intended or not by submitting a limitless list of "demands" in these trade negotiation these craven fools started a trade war instead. This was supposed to be easy, Canada is an incredible friendly nation, and instead managed to piss them all off.

As this begins to happen the third phase of unification will slowly start to happen. The most important in terms of creating permanent social glue and effectively the equivalent of a national awakening. It will be a cultural unification.

We will begin to see more inter-provincial progress occur and more importantly expansion. The Federal government will begin it's second tranche of foreign trade rounds and draw itself closer to Europe and Asia. This will in turn expand and strengthen Canada's economy again.

Now that Canada's economy and it's sovereignty has been effectively assaulted again. The country will begin a second phase of unification. The first was political, the second is economic. The economic unification was already underway but now there is even greater impetus to do it faster than before.

I don't think the US Admin understands what they just did in terms of foreign relation policy. The annexation attempt unified Canada's politics. The attempted trade invasion on Canada will unify it's economy.

That's such an absurdly weak response. PM of Canada is out there stating that the US writes deals in pencil and using advanced rhetorical devices to impress upon Canada what is happening and how they feel.

US Admin is going to find out how tough Canada can become. Nations when sovereignty is threatened, adapt and evolve rapidly. They unify their purpose and combine their willpower. The PM has repeated "Maîtres Chez Nous" and has now added "We set our course, We make our own weather."

They didn't closed coal operating power plants, they simply didn't approve new ones because coal powered electricity emits 50% more carbon and generates only half of the amount of power than a natural gas plant and costs nearly double that of an inefficient simple cycle gas fired turbine.

Individualism is erased and by greater extension any form of noble collectivism is supplanted by withered grasps at power concentration. Everything they must do is in relation to maintain their "tool" usefulness to the state. By doing so the erode themselves slowly and then absolutely.

The individual erases themselves in this event and they effectively allow their actions to be colonized by the authoritarian state. Since this colonization comes with the tantalizing offer of power, they allow it wholly and effectively cease their own individual will.

A revealing aspects of authoritarian media seizure is the willingness for longtime serving individuals to proffer themselves to the state completely and remorselessly. They become tools to which the authoritarian system acts through erasing institutional safeguards for a quasi dilution of power.

Considering California is still actively pursuing Tesla for misleading customers of the capabilities of it's self-driving OS system. I don't think it would be wise to allow such a vehicle onto public streets without the steering wheels and pedals.

In any war, one must understand that the enemy gets a vote. If you threaten your enemy with limitless objectives that lead to an existential threat. They will vote for limitless survival regardless of loss. The US has fought the Viet Cong, Taliban and KPA, you'd think the lesson was learned.

Final note, once this one-two punch connects with the US economy, later in 2027, it will begin to eat away at gains made under Biden and start to erode initial private investment that was put forward in late 2024, as those investments recede the US economy will then enter a total recession period.
