An additional 5,000 people became unemployed during the quarter, rising to levels last seen in 2015. 164,000 people are now unemployed, up 39,000 in just 2 years. A🧵 411450

Unemployment is up, & the cost of living is still rising for middle and low-income New Zealanders. The GDP increase today simply balances out the fall previously. A Thread 411754
Pōneke Matt @ponekematt.bsky.social · 28/11/2025Incredibly bad luck. If you’re heading North of Wellington take Transmission Gully and not SH57. Southbound traffic is on SH57 but expect delays. Details: wellington.scoop.co.nz?p=176102 100

Pōneke Matt @ponekematt.bsky.social · 28/09/2025185 years ago, Te Āti Awa rangatira signed Te Tiriti here in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, expecting their rangatiratanga would be upheld. This includes a voice in local government. Since then, only ONE iwi member has ever sat on Council. That’s not partnership. #under-representation. #KEEPMāoriWards 222

Pōneke Matt @ponekematt.bsky.social · 22/09/2025Under-representation is one reason for Māori wards Despite signing Te Tiriti for the rohe known as Te Whanganui-a-Tara. Pōneke Matt @ponekematt.bsky.social · 20/09/2025“Aren’t Māori wards an extra cost?” The cost comes from forcing referendums, not the wards themselves. All councillors are paid from the same pool. Without MW that pool is simply shared among fewer councillors. Any costs are small compared to the benefits of inclusive and effective governance. 020
Pōneke Matt @ponekematt.bsky.social · 20/09/2025Māori wards “Can’t Māori just get elected in general wards?” While some Māori do, they are the exception. Māori wards remove structural barriers, not merit. They create equity, not privilege. #pōti #toitūtetiriti #māoriwards #referendum 13914

Pōneke Matt @ponekematt.bsky.social · 11/09/2025I’ve always believed that diversity of ideas makes for better decision-making. Māori bring whakapapa, whanaungatanga & kaitiakitanga to decisions.
