Reposted by polyfelix86 @felix86.com · 22/05/2026Received the SpacemiT K3 #RISCV board today, and already running Crysis. I need to optimize the emulator over the next few months, but this is way better performance than the K1 already. 192
poly @polyproxy.bsky.social · 09/04/2026There's also the fact many development environments relied on now-defunct 3rd-party companies whose software is lost to time. Licensing would also be a problem, I imagine. Don't get me wrong, I'd love it if they went for it but it's something that is too good to be true... 010
poly @polyproxy.bsky.social · 09/04/2026Development on retail machines is not ideal (forget about debuggers in most cases), they'd have to begin producing those kits that went for thousands, which likely won't benefit none of both sides. 200
poly @polyproxy.bsky.social · 07/04/2026Guess I'll see you from the other side. What does that extension do that makes you unable to switch sides? 110
poly @polyproxy.bsky.social · 06/04/2026I have since moved to Kate. To me, it has (surprisingly) easily replaced everything I used from VSCode, and with a mostly similar UI too-- couldn't ask for anything more! 110
poly @polyproxy.bsky.social · 27/03/2026I need someone to explain to me why CMake is hated that much, it can't be that bad, right? 000

poly @polyproxy.bsky.social · 08/12/2025Granted, both of these happened with very old versions of GCC, but in my opinion, this was nothing compared to... other compilers at the time. If your compiler's codegen isn't consistent, you have a bad bad compiler in your hands. I'd like to think that those times are (hopefully) long gone now. 030
poly @polyproxy.bsky.social · 08/12/2025Another one of these rare cases, I didn't experience it myself, but it was surprising to hear what seemed to be a compiler bug, where codegen changed considerably depending on the variable's name. I personally think that's much worse than the previous case, I don't think it could get any worse. 130
poly @polyproxy.bsky.social · 08/12/2025The loop's contents were reordered depending on whether the blocks happened in a single line or not, and this only happened in one single function out of the other hundreds of functions. In other words: This: "if (foo) continue;" and this: " if (foo) continue; " Produced different code. 130
poly @polyproxy.bsky.social · 08/12/2025When these happen, it's hard to forget them, mostly because they're very infuriating (from a reverse engineer's perspective). I was hitting my head for days with this function, until I made a very annoying discovery. 130
poly @polyproxy.bsky.social · 08/12/2025I'm very thankful for GCC's consistency when it comes to codegen, really. Which is why I'm quite surprised on the rare cases where this consistency disappears and codegen changes considerably. 🧵 132
poly @polyproxy.bsky.social · 07/12/2025I really hate how GT5 has great tunes from the previous games (notably Prologue) that are just disabled everywhere by default for no apparent reason. Thankfully you can change that, unlike GTS where you're stuck with the Transmission mode playlist and no way to individually play each song. Why? 010

poly @polyproxy.bsky.social · 29/10/2025This is another reminder about the PaRappa 2 decompilation project, where we reached 64% (~43% for matched bytes) of completion. 🎉 Recently we achieved shiftability (the ability to add & delete code and data). As always, any help is appreciated 🙂 #parappatherapper #parappa 28548

poly @polyproxy.bsky.social · 25/07/2025Maybeeeee encryption was only done later on the console's lifespan? I doubt that though. At least for 3rd party modules from developers. 020
poly @polyproxy.bsky.social · 24/07/2025Thank you! If you're able to tell, what was it like to develop for such a small but important processor? 110
poly @polyproxy.bsky.social · 24/07/2025Previous posts claiming to have reached 50% are incorrect. It was found that the way I was measuring progress was inaccurate, inflating percentage by around 10 to 20 percent. Hopefully that won't repeat again 030
poly @polyproxy.bsky.social · 24/07/2025The decompiled module in particular is in charge of doing background streaming of interleaved audio (and data in special occasions). Quite important! The last remaining module is responsible for playback of sound effects. On another note, we recently surpassed 50% of progress. 140
poly @polyproxy.bsky.social · 24/07/2025Last week, a major milestone was achieved--a matching decompilation of one of the IOP modules. These are little programs sent to the IOP (I/O Processor) responsible for interacting with peripherals (DVD, pad, etc). It is, to my knowledge, the first ever matching decompilation for an IOP module. 383
