Just want to say that the nurses and other folks who work in hospice care are amazing people. That job cannot be easy and yet they are always the kindest and most caring folks you will meet.

Although when I got to rescue flashing the BIOS, it DID run me down some weird tangent of trying to unplug the CPU power before deciding "Oh, the BIOS might be too new, try an old one, then you can upgrade once it's working again."

I'll be fair: Google's AI mode helped me diagnose and fix a very strange problem that was suddenly stopping my PC from booting. I'm sure I could have figured it out after hours of googling and reading old Reddit posts, but who knows after how long.

Y'know, becoming a caregiver to an elderly family member, I thought the worst would be feeding them or cleaning up poop. Cleaning up shit feels so much easier than helping them through confusion. And that's on top of seeing someone you love in that state.

The Disney renaissance movies used to look different. They were planned to be printed on 35 mm film -- that's how they were first released. Modern editions skip that last step in the process. It was a highly developed, overlooked craft, as we explore: animationobsessive.substack.com/p/disneys-fi...

As a fellow greymuzzle who’s been around for more than 2 decades: DO NOT TALK TO THE PRESS. It will not end well for you, personally, much less the community at large. Special caveat to this is that the UK media is exponentially -worse- when it comes to our community. Avoid at all costs!

Oh yea, talking about old phone stuff: The phone number that used to belong to a payphone in the middle of the Mojave desert (That's a whole 'nother story) was taken over by someone operating a party-phone like system. So if you're in the US you can 760-733-9969 free and check it out.

For context, the rates are equivalent to roughly $6 for the first min, $1.40-$2 each additional min in today's money. I do feel like the messages represent an interesting big of lost media that will probably never be recovered. Even if most of the voice actors were impersonators.

Stumbled on this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cbM... and was reminded how weird the 1-900 numbers were back in the day. Most of the time what you'd get is some per-recorded messages and choose-your-own-adventure numberpad choices, all designed to keep you on the line as long as possible.
