Well you are right in that it needs to text, but it can glean or convert into text a lot of things, and you are right that it doesn't actually "know" anything, I am speaking to a layperson, so thats the easiest way to understand.. What it is building is vectors and tokens for later lookups..

Not good at a lot of things.. I will fully agree.. However it is very good at doing some things. The problem is where its trying to be applied..

No.. no you don't have to have that. Not in any way shape or form. Saying this entirely misrepresents what a model actually is. Its not a library, nor does it have to have broad depth knowledge about everything. Agents are what picks up when a model doesn't "know" something, and goes and looks it up

Hi.. person who actually has first hand knowledge of how models are trained and created. Mr. Scalzi is right. Models could easily have been trained on non-copyrighted/open-source/public domain information, and it originally was. It just wasnt good.. so they stole it.. mostly.

Neither of which would help, any explanation is not really sufficient for that amount of loss of life quite frankly, and there is literally nothing that could justify it either, so I think it meets muster as a distinction without a difference.

There is no math to do... A population that has literally millions in it... is not, and cannot be vulnerable. An individual can of course, but that doesn't apply to a group of millions.

PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Definitely not.. I had multiple family members that were lost both fighting in WWII as well as in camps.. But that was then.. and doesn't excuse or explain current action. You are trying to draw some sort of tangent that doesn't exist. You don't get special treatment because of it.

Just like Korea...

PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
The fact that you are more concerned with population growth and not that Israel murdered literally thousands of kids means you have no morals.

PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Repeating the same straw man again and again, is not exactly a good argument strategy...

PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
It is not... One, people in prehistory were mostly nomadic, especially in that area. No one group stayed in one place, whether that be in the area we call Israel now, or all of the Arabian peninsula. There are probably 5-6 historically distinct peoples that can rightly claim nativity.

Nobody is siding with racists, they are siding with a people that is literally being massacred in their homes by a country that was built on their own land less than a century ago.. I absolutely would revere them if they actually were benevolent here.

PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
I would say Israel in its current state is blasphemy... to literal Jews.

PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
An indigenous group was already there.. You don't get to come back to a place and ask for your stuff back... Nowhere in life is that true. Also they didn't "ask" it was essentially a legal takeover supplied by the UK.
010
PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
They were unjust here, as they are there historically... but most importantly today... BECAUSE WE SHOULD KNOW BETTER. You dont get your stuff back after you leave... or you shouldn't
000
PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
What part of the Palestinians are the indigenous group do you not get? Both groups at one time lived there.. then one left.. You don't get to take you ball and go home, then come back and claim the court is yours.
010
PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
You do realize how absolutely asinine that statement is right.. Take this.. a foreign group comes into your land, says it is theirs now.. but they will "share"... I don't think any reasonable human from any walk of life goes along with that.

PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
As the literal inhabitants of the land prior the land being legally annexed underneath them, I'd say they have a pretty good argument against someone coming in and claiming everything is theirs, and then using force to quell unrest. Those are not the acts of someone acting in good faith.. literally

PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
They are the most supported and protected people on the planet... vulnerable they are not.
110
PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Yes.. I agree Israel is doing some heinous stuff that they clearly should historically know better not to repeat.
010
PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
No it doesn't, just because a group is smaller does not mean it is more vulnerable. Vulnerability has absolutely nothing to do with how many people there are. To that point there are far smaller groups that are afforded less leeway in their trangressions against other peoples.

PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
This is the literal definition of a straw-man argument
120
PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
So the country with the state of the art weapons, no ROE, that has leveled almost an entire country and took 40K+ innocent lives is the vulnerable one.... got it.. Man what a weird world you must live in... When the bullied grow up, they become the bullies eh...
110
PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
I do have one.. which is why as a human I am more concerned about 40K+ deaths than I am 1000 or so... As any reasonable person would be.

PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Also you should probably read more about the laws of armed conflict. www.icrc.org/sites/defaul...
000
PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Verifiable military targets are always on the table. So that is a false equivalency, I am however not talking about those. Hospitals, schools, residential blocks are literally mentioned in black and white as not valid military targets, much in the same way that the Red Cross/Crescent is.
000
PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Yeah that doesn't even come close to meeting the legal requirements.. Telling people they have to leave their home is literally an infraction itself. One of the other terms is that it must be limited in scope, and like you said limit civilian loss of life... Which is something they have not.
000
PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Its ok... they apparently don't have mirrors...
020
PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
In addition to that, systematically displacing civilians is a crime in and of itself.
010
PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
At this point it has to be a combination of confirmation bias and groupthink, combined with a bit of cognitive dissonance. Its uncanny... Anyone without a "Dog in the fight" so to speak, can see that.
020
PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Oh I absolutely believe that. However, that does not, and has not ever meant you level a city to find them. Thats pretty much a no-go for any legal conflict, you cannot involve civilians either directly or in any significantly collateral way.

PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
They ARE the indigenous people though.
020
PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Then remove Hamas... I am all for that.. but that isn't what is happening, they are instead leveling everything and everyone.. Against pretty much every rule of armed conflict.
100
PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
If such is true, then it is a uniformed conflict.. i.e. civilians should be spared at all cost. I would disagree about "reacting" though. a 40-1 ratio is not "reacting" it is a literal massacre.
010
PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Explain to me how a group, whether you'd like to group them as a country or as a people, would be vulnerable. To me, the only actually vulnerable people are the ones that are innocent have been displaced, and are under constant threat of death for actions that were not their own nor condoned by them
120
PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
There are substantially less of them, however I am again not sure why that should matter in the least. Grouping "Arabs" together homogeneously is about the most asinine thing one could do. Are all white people the same too? The point is "never again" should apply to themselves as well.
130
PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
No I'd agree that those are also false equivalencies.. The point is that if literally any group should know better.. It should be them. To your other comments about not blaming the whole group, the same is true. Bad actors took lives, so someone decided 40X more, and mostly innocent should die.
110
PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Because you are referencing one vulnerable group (which in the current era isn't very vulnerable), whilst the same vulnerable group bullies another.

PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
...... The irony of this comment is literally palpable.

My company feeds literally over half the cattle in the US. Ranchers are absolutely livid over Trump.. It's uncanny, when i came into this industry.. they used to fawn over him.

Any programmer would recognize these statements could both be true, and not what they are inferred in meaning, merely a sorting and labeling error. Neither of his statements are inherently positive, they just lack context and labels.

Any chance showing location or including that with their report, because it definitely wasn't the case here. But there could be something different about the implementation. However its hard to beat innate human behavior when there is no immediate consequence.

PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
I'd have to compile some NHTSA and state level metrics and give some links but its all pretty readily available. It also comports with human behavior. Since its deferred punishment, it doesn't really work. That on top of privacy and enforcement concerns is why they were canned specifically in DEN.

PolyglotProg @polyglotprog.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
uh... no.. A system which observes and cannot interdict is not saving any lives functional or not. Speed cameras do not statistically effect the amount of speeders.. Thats why most municipalities gave up on them. While loss of life is always unfortunate, a camera would not have helped.

I don't think it ever is a "recording" I think it is streamed and tokenized in one pass.. so there is data sure.. but not something any human or other system could ever understand, likely not even another of the same chip, as it is likely SALTed.
