Our Oct issue cover #NowOut features artist Kelly Popoff’s “Shame.” Part of her "Americana" series, for Popoff, shame is less about cowering regret than an invitation to do differently next time. See it: www.journals.uchicago.edu/toc/pol/2025... #Polisky #PoliSciResearch @kellypopoff.bsky.social

Some people have asked why Polity’s handle is @PolityalsBeruf. It’s a gesture to the title of Max Weber’s seminal 1919 lecture, “Politics as a Vocation” which in German is “Politik als Beruf.” So Polity is our vocation!

The cover of our July issue, #NowOut, features a painting with a bold and haunting aesthetic by Kelly Popoff. The canvas - painted with heavy strokes of gray, with bits of blue, yellow, and pink mixed in - complicates the painting’s setting.
