Good to see. Have read articles that mention Iran closing the Straits of Hormuz but no handy map to go with it. So, naturally, people are looking it up.
Google Trends showing a marked uptick in Hormuz as a search term for the past month. Not much for ages, a few searched in the past week and in the last day a sudden spike.

Good morning and happy Saturday. This headline makes us want to scream. Sparking? Nope. How about "confirming"? And do NOT try the 'supply and demand' argument or even the Labor govt's new red herring, 'red tape'. It's tax policy. #Auspol
Headline reads:
Average house price surpasses $1 million, sparking affordability fears .
"Sparking" implies we're just at the beginning. This is a disaster that's been brewing for decades!

www.theguardian.com/business/gro... #Auspol Wealthy Australians are worried we might realise how rigged the system is in their favour Greg Jericho
The current median superannuation balance for men in their early 50s is about $162,000; for women it is $111,000. You really think $3m is anything even remotely possible for most people?

If the graph does not display click here

So why the ruckus? The same reason there is massive noise about any changes to the capital gains tax discount: wealth.

Those with wealth like property prices rising because that increases their wealth, and they love that the capital gains tax discount gives them a 50% tax break when they generate even more wealth.

The attempts to change superannuation tax concessions has worried the extremely wealthy that people will realise just how rigged the system is in their favour. And they worry it might finally be the start of attempts to address the growing wealth inequality in this country. It should be.

AEC count for Goldstein shows Tim Wilson leading by 660 votes. 115 votes have been counted already. Very low informal rate of 2.48% which would be one of the lowest in the country, and down 0.95% on 2022. Wilson lifted his first preference vote by 4.19%, defying all trends. Holy guacamole, the first pref votes in NSW was diabolical for Liberals.
NSW first preferences Labor 35.17%, Liberal 24.07%
Greens 10.76
Independent - which weren't running in every seat - 9.96%, which is almost level pegging with Greens.
Nationals 7.72, which, when combined with Liberals gives coalition first pref vote of 31.79% ...
Fusion should just give up.
Libertarians have dropped severely since they had to change their name from Liberal Democrats because people confused them with Liberals or Democrats...

Zoe McKenzie is on 37,831 votes and has 40.53% of the first preference vote ... however, whoever comes third will most likely have preferences flowing to whoever is in second spot, so whoever can hang on for second spot could win instead.

Major parties taking voters for granted, Yee says

Independent Stella Yee, who didn’t make it across the line, tells the ABC that the major parties have been taking voters for granted “for a long time”.

Yee says Labor’s response to the siege on Gaza has played a role in her decision to run as an independent, along with its continued efforts to open more gas fields and coal mines.

It is the same old same old that have letters (should be 'lead us') to this point. People have voted number one for me, sending a message that the two parties are just not good enough. A lot of our systems like sending gas for free and not charging multinationals tax and all of that, those are not correct settings for us. So we are sending this message.

In Australia, Liberal = conservatives.Liberal senator says Coalition 'sent the troops into battle without ammunition'
Dan Jervis-Bardy
Dan Jervis-Bardy
The rightwing SA Liberal senator Alex Antic has ripped into the Coalition’s campaign in an interview on Sky News.

Antic said:

It think it simply didn’t have policy that resonated.

Many of the policies were, in my mind, reminiscent of a mobile phone contract – you know, for the first 12 months, you’ll get something free.

I mean, in many cases, I feel very sorry for some of our excellent candidates, particularly here in South Australia, who’ve done a power of work trying to get real people back into politics.

But unfortunately, we’ve sent the troops into battle without ammunition.

Asked about the future direction of the party, Antic said the Liberal branch in SA – of which he exerts enormous influence – was a template for a nationwide revival.

He said the party must “make the Liberal party great again”, echoing Donald Trump’s campaign slogan.

OK, yes but ... The 'biggest national vote in our history' for Greens ... looks as if it's stagnating. (Plenty of votes still to come, obviously) And the Greens vote dropped badly in Dickson, Dutton's seat. #Auspol
Greens vote in Dickson had earned only 7.32% of the vote and had a 5.68% swing against. Ali France earned a 2.51% swing to take 34.34% of the first preference vote and Independent Ellie Smith took 12.9%.
