Eastern European states which were occupied by Russia since 1945 did not need the US to push them into NATO after the Cold War ended. They gladly applied to join NATO to be protected from precisely this kind of Russian expansion we are witnessing now.

I did pass the Wargame: Red Dragon Korea campaign, which starts by South Korea issuing martial law, forcing mass student protests, enabling North Korea's ultimately unsuccessful invasion to unfold, so I feel pretty comfortable right now cause the good guys win in the end.

Territory isn't the primary issue in negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, it's whether Ukraine's security is guaranteed for the future. That's what Ukraine needs and Russia opposes. Focusing on territory is a smokescreen to cover up this main contradiction and shift the blame on Ukraine.

"Putin has already lost the war" is not a useful narrative in this stage of the war. While it's true that Russia has suffered significant loses, that its economy has been set on the wrong path and that it doesn't occupy major Ukrainian cities, the war can still be ended with an unfavorable peace.

The war against Ukraine, on a strategic level, should end with the stabilization of relations between the West and Russia. The stabilization has not yet been achieved. Like during the Cold War, the West has to define and defend red lines, or Russia will keep pushing them back.

Biden's administration is not escalating the war, it is implementing necessary measures to slow down or bring to a halt the Russian scramble for Ukrainian territory before Trump is inaugurated. This will strengthen the Ukrainian position and Trump's leverage on Russia.
