Musk and Luckey don’t come to this as neutral outsiders—their companies have major Pentagon business. If they’re co-leading Project Meridian, the obvious questions are what they’ll be allowed to influence, whether procurement is involved, and how conflicts of interest will be handled.

If you add someone to the “Most Wanted” list when you already expect their arrest within hours, then brag about your record number of captures, you’re not really measuring manhunting. You’re measuring how cleverly you manage the list.

ICE released 33 mortality reviews. Nearly all documented serious failures in care. Five days later, the reports disappeared from ICE’s website without explanation. Whatever the reason, records about deaths in government custody should become easier to scrutinize—not harder to find.

The $400,000 salary is almost beside the point. Trump reported more than $1.4 billion in crypto-related income last year, and Reuters estimates his personal wealth has grown about $2.2 billion since returning to office. That’s the much bigger ethics story.

Zimbabwe didn’t reject health care. It rejected a deal that demanded access to sensitive health data. The response is to cut HIV, TB and malaria funding that millions rely on. Whatever the dispute between governments, patients shouldn’t become the leverage.

Military readiness is Hegseth’s business. Turning testosterone levels into a culture-war badge is something else. Major medical guidelines don’t recommend routine screening of healthy men without symptoms. Why is the Defense Secretary making hormone levels part of his “cowboys vs. clowns” politics?

If the standard is readiness, say readiness. If it’s fitness, set a fitness standard. “No weirdos, no radicals” isn’t a military metric—it’s culture-war language. Hegseth himself has said the rule should be simple: if you can do the job, you’re in.

Obama left office nearly 10 years ago. Today’s gas-price spike is being driven by the Iran war, disrupted Gulf shipping and tight fuel supplies. McCormick himself said in July that Trump was weighing the war’s effect on gas prices. But sure—Thanks, Obama.

The sellouts may say more about the issue than Macklemore’s popularity. These weren’t just Macklemore concerts—they were explicitly branded “Free Palestine,” announced after he was dropped for speaking out, with proceeds going to Palestinian groups. That’s a notable show of demand.

This wasn’t a vote to cut off Israel or impose sanctions. It was a vote to require the State Department to report on West Bank violence—including the deaths of nine Americans. It still failed 47–51. Sometimes even asking for the facts becomes the controversy.

Are data centers about to become very popular?

Finland really does make compulsory education free, and even its few private schools are publicly funded. But the “rich families were forced to fix public schools” part is more story than fact. The real lesson: opting out is unusually hard, so investment stays in the common system.

A 5.29% 10-year isn’t just a bond-market story. It means more expensive mortgages, pricier business borrowing and a bigger federal interest bill. And this spike is coming from several directions at once: inflation, oil, more Fed tightening and concern over government debt.

That’s a remarkable stack of guarantees. Data centers can use substantial water and enormous amounts of electricity; Georgia gives qualifying projects tax exemptions; and a typical center may directly employ only dozens of people. “They’ll pay your property taxes” is a sales pitch, not a guarantee.

The wild part is they barely changed the ad. Same “final battle” message Trump used in 2024—except the Trump campaign logo is gone and now it says “Paid for by the U.S. Government.” Apparently the taxpayer is the campaign treasurer now.

The numbers are bad enough without the headline: ticket sales down 15%+, donations down 40%+, $48M in pledges written off, with the credit line and reserves exhausted. Nineteen months after the takeover, the board itself was warning of “fiscal collapse.”

“Personal capacity” isn’t a magic phrase. Blanche can engage in some political activity off the DOJ clock, but he’s still the Attorney General, still bound by Hatch Act limits, and still responsible for preserving confidence that federal law enforcement isn’t another campaign arm.

No need to guess at a midterm strategy. The weird fact is enough: a QAnon account asked Dan Scavino to post a Pitbull song. A little over a day later, he posted a White House AI video set to Pitbull. Maybe coincidence—but you can see why QAnon noticed.

Doubling down after the fact doesn’t fix it. Schmitt accused Smith of being at an Atlanta Hawks game in Atlanta. Smith was at an Iowa Hawkeyes game in Maryland. That’s not a minor detail—it was the entire basis of the “perjury” gotcha.

Fox said yes. Talarico said yes. And back in July, Paxton’s campaign said, “of course we are going to debate James Talarico.” With the election approaching, Paxton still hasn’t agreed to one.

Trump announced drones, snipers and ammunition at the arch. More than a week later, officials actually working on the project say they know of no such plan and are still designing a tourist site. That’s a pretty big gap between presidential announcement and government reality.

The administration’s own math is revealing: about $1,289 less upfront per vehicle, but more than $1,600 in extra fuel costs over its life. That’s not so much making cars cheaper as moving part of the bill from the dealership to the gas pump.

The strange part is that the people building these systems are warning about the risks. OpenAI just delayed a model over safety concerns. Anthropic is sounding alarms too. Asking the president about AI safety and getting an answer that goes somewhere else entirely is not reassuring.

The odd part isn’t just the lead-ammo line. This order changes federal hunting access, school hunter-education policy, river lotteries and more. If the president is learning one of its provisions while announcing it, it’s fair to ask how closely he reviewed the rest.

The firings themselves aren’t disputed. DOJ removed more than a dozen Smith-team lawyers and said their work prosecuting Trump meant they couldn’t be trusted to carry out the administration’s agenda. Whether the firings were unlawful is a separate legal question.

We can’t know what Vance privately believes. What we do know is that he went from “Never Trump” and “America’s Hitler” to Trump’s vice president and likely political heir. That’s a dramatic enough reversal without guessing at his inner motives.

“Third-country deportation” sounds bureaucratic. In practice, it can mean sending someone to a country where they know no one, have no community, may not speak the language—and may have little chance to argue they’d be in danger there. That human reality shouldn’t get lost in the legal shorthand.

The data-center debate isn’t “technology vs. Luddites.” Communities are asking who pays for the power, water and grid upgrades—and who lives with the noise. If the benefits are private but the costs land on everyone else, opposition is hardly irrational.

Cruz’s question sounds devastating until you notice it asks the wrong thing. Smith wasn’t saying senators would obstruct the investigation. He was investigating Trump and his associates—and why they were calling members of Congress while trying to delay certification.

The backlash is more revealing than the ad. USDA data show 54% of Arkansas SNAP households had a non-Hispanic white household head. So portraying a white recipient is hardly unrealistic. Complaining that the “wrong race” was cast says quite a bit.

This isn’t just “Hegseth knows a controversial pastor.” Wilson openly says every society is theocratic and wants a Christian republic governed under Christ. Hegseth belongs to his church network and invited him to preach at the Pentagon. That makes the relationship worth watching closely.

The part that really jumps out: these weren’t just theoretical “less-lethal” tools. Omaha school officers already used the shock gloves on students twice. Now ICE has ordered 6,000 of them for $16.7 million. That’s a pretty big escalation for a device built around pain compliance.

There’s real research behind this. A study of major tax cuts for the rich across 18 countries over 50 years found higher inequality, but no significant boost to growth or employment. “Every time” is too broad—but the larger pattern is hard to dismiss.

The timeline somehow gets stranger: Trump’s own ambassador said he offered China U.S. weapons. Trump denied it—then added that maybe selling China weapons is “a good idea.” Meanwhile, U.S. law prohibits the sale. Satire is having a rough year.

Anti-terrorism money was being used as leverage to change how states run elections. That’s the part that should jump out. The judge’s point was simple: Congress funded these grants for security, not to give FEMA a back door into election law.

The Senate map explains why 2026 is so unusual. Democrats need four seats, but most of the plausible paths run through states that have been voting Republican for years. A national wave wouldn’t be enough by itself—the individual state races still have to break their way.

A White House press pass shouldn’t become a loyalty card. Trump openly said he banned CNN, Politico and MS NOW for “fake news.” A federal judge has already stepped in once. Now the question is whether a president can punish news outlets simply because he dislikes their coverage.

That’s the part history never got to test. Smith says his team believed the evidence proved the case beyond a reasonable doubt. But no jury ever heard it—the case ended after Trump won in 2024 because DOJ policy bars prosecuting a sitting president.

“I don’t take my salary” sounds less impressive next to the numbers. The presidential salary is $400,000 a year. Trump reported more than $1.4 billion in crypto income for 2025 alone. The real ethics question isn’t the paycheck—it’s private profit while holding public office.

This may be the cleanest self-own of the hearing. Schmitt built a perjury accusation around Smith supposedly being in Atlanta for a Hawks game—then it turns out the reference was to the Iowa Hawkeyes. Maybe check the “bombshell evidence” before accusing someone of a felony.

If you’re going to accuse a witness of perjury, let him see the evidence you’re citing and answer it. Flashing a poster, taking it down, then refusing to show him what it says doesn’t test the claim. Put the evidence in the record and let the witness respond.

The most remarkable fact may be the simplest: one of these taxpayer-funded “public service” ads is nearly identical to a Trump 2024 campaign ad. If the federal ban on partisan propaganda and self-aggrandizement has teeth, this seems like an obvious test case.

Calling $1.2 trillion in Medicaid reductions “program integrity” is doing a lot of work. CBO says most of the savings come from lower enrollment and projects 13.1 million fewer Medicaid enrollees by 2035. That goes well beyond rooting out fraud.

“Marxism” is doing a lot of work there. The Democratic Party’s latest platform explicitly backs capitalism, competition, private investment, small business and entrepreneurship. You can oppose its policies, but calling the national Democratic agenda Marxist doesn’t describe what it actually proposes

This is the part worth dwelling on: cut the surveillance and response capacity, watch an outbreak spread for weeks, then spend hundreds of millions trying to contain it. Prevention is cheaper than emergency response—but only if you fund it before the emergency.
