Well that's good, but if you really want a vn engine i think renpy is everything you need, I'm tried this before to make something like that in godot, but even making the save system is super hard, compared to renpy that have one for default and it's works perfectly. But do what you like hehe :)

I don't think that's a good idea, renpy have features that you can't easily replicate inside godot. Just learn renpy it's so much easier, and you will save a lot of time and also you will have more time for writing and art rather than programming.
