Thus I was like ah, now I've got it, I can increase the flow(at least what's what my brain thinks) and produce a more readable shape if I can have the legs in like a walking stance haha, and that's just something I randomly do on drawings, I just kinda sit on them until I can better see the forms

Some more behind the scenes/older visualizations for how I kinda analyze motion and stuff during sketching! Image 1: Action/Motion Lines Image 2: Rigid Skeleton Image 3: 3D Shapes & Connections Image 4: Tum overlays (Explanations/Thought process for each in alt text)

Red lines displaying the free motion that I would like a character to have, for me I normally do this right at the beginning when I am planning out the exact vibe that I want a character to have. This for me is where all of the charm/emotion/expression of our body language comes from! Here this dragon is quite jolly and energetic, thus I kinda wanted the motion lines to express a much more flowy and outward direction!

Purple lines representing the more rigid skeleton of our subject! For me these lines are like what snap us back to reality, and remind me that our range of motion has limitations(as much as I would want my arm to stretch or flow like jelly we have bones that tell us no!) During sketching I don't really sketch out this skeleton everytime but kinda use it in conjunction with my free flowing motion lines. In actuality the sketches that I do combine the idea of free flow and limitations to create believable ranges of motion while still keeping the emotion from the first action lines!

A really rudimentary breakdown(was drawing this in a rush lol) and overlay for how I imagine 3D shapes connecting into each other on the body of our subject! Wherever there's a connection I sorta imagine the 3D shapes kinda like being squished together into a plane with ball and socket joints that represent elbows or leg to pelvis connections. The joints and planes aren't really something I sketch but this is also like something I subconsciously think about when sketching haha.

Not much to be said about this one! A simple overlay of how I imagine like a really round protrusion and the structure that's embedded underneath! Something I personally love sketching is that line where the leg and tum connect it's like where I can see this overlay happening lol.
