2/2... looks like they're trying to reinvent their way back to that in the most ass, digital subscription content only way possible.

Back in the day, when Netflix was still a mail based DVD rental service, there was a brief window in the mainstream PC world where the HTPC existed. The Home Theatre PC was eventually more or less absorbed by Gen 7 videogame consoles, but looking at where Sony and Microsoft are headed, it... 1/2

Blargh... This phrasing is bad. 2400/24XX is isn't at zero as a system. I was trying to emphasize how rapidly the system accelerates from its rules lite baseline into a more substantive but still lite system.

2/2... from 0 to 11 real fast as a system. I'd put its potential on par or near to YZE (Year Zero Engine). Anyways, it's been one of my favourite indie systems for ages now and if you haven't checked it out, get right with life and click this link: jasontocci.itch.io/2400

One of the aspects I have loved about the 2400/24XX #TTRPG since it was launched was that it's one of the few truly rules lite systems that has the flexibility to run short and long term campaigns as is. And with minor homebrew work, and willingness to break the four page format, it goes... 1/2

2/2... narrative fuel that helped build the scene and the tension in it. And it was awesome to see. Turning failure and "success, but..." rolls into more than just a roll is a great skill to develop, and I can't encourage it enough. #TTRPG

Just a note on one of the single best things I saw in game today. The player who was a Key (hacker/safe cracker/tech) in the game was rolling poorly almost constantly. We're talking lowest of lows followed by a high, then right back down. And he roled with it. He turned those downs into... 1/2

2/2 The Sunday Crew? The Professionals. They were in it to win it. They had people on the inside, the plan was not elaborate, they had assigned teams, and even their failed rolls only enhanced the story! It was 75% watching them do their thing and the rest was wondering if it wasn't their first job!

So... I ran @jst.bsky.social's 2400 LOFI Sci-Fi: The Venusian Job twice this weekend. The crews (players) could not have approached things more differently! The Saturday Crew? Merchants of chaos! They planned an elaborate heist and may have also ignited a Venus vs Earth conflict. 1/2

Consoles were, until now (Gen 9), the great democratizer of gaming. They used to be where a lot of the best gaming experiences happened (not all, but a lot), but the minute they decided to try to compete directly with PC gaming by becoming gaming Netflix? That was the end.

110

POCGamer aka PanzerLion! @pocgamer.com · 22/09/2026

2/2 And to be honest, I was lucky. Finding those systems when I did, at the prices they were at, aren't a thing anymore and it hasn't even been six months. Within a month of Sony's announcements, the older console/game scene has being going off the rails for prices and availability.

POCGamer aka PanzerLion! @pocgamer.com · 22/09/2026

And people ask why I went so rapidly from "Huh, refurbishing a PS3 and a PS4 was pretty fun, I should grab a few more games for these..." to "Holy shit, Sony and everyone but Steam and GOG want to be Netflix and make gaming shitty, I need to have a robust collection of offline physical games." 1/2

That feeling when you unpack a favourite appliance, realize you lost the manual, look it up online and discover it's classified as a "vintage" unit. The unit in question is a Sunbeam Tea Drop countertop tea maker.

Net improvement all round. BFRP and TotV are, honestly, what I thought 5e should have been like from the start. When I have physical book money again, I plan on making some investments for my game library.

Like, leaning on #D&D, in the older materials, this is what Chult was like in the Forgotten Realms, and to a degree, in its 5e reincarnation. Everything is ambushes or chance close contact, maneuver is king, visual ranges are minimal, and team work isn't optional.

Speaking of Predator, its 80's insensitivities aside, it's an excellent template for understanding the claustrophobia and stress of a jungle based adventure in a #TTRPG. The building of tension, the frustration of an opponent who won't face you head on... It's a solid showcase of all of that.

2/2 Cat City (1986) was the other movie I watched probably way too much, because it was the 80's and pretty much anything that was a cartoon was put in the kid's section and holy shit this was not a movie for kids. The movie literally has a song called "Pussy Talk" that's all thin inuendo.

We went to the Weird Al concert last night in Vancouver, and I discovered that I am apparently a lyrical sleeper agent when he performed songs that I haven't heard/sang since 2008 and I immediately knew the words. Great concert, great music, alarming implications!

Another Green Lantern thing: The rings' function of finding a replacement user is, for all intents and purposes, an emergency draft. The Guardians have always maintained a mixed force of ring and Guardian selected lanterns. At no point have the Guardians ever just relied on the rings for recruits.

2/3... is an amazing example of how broken the system is. He's always been a low key racist, his love interest was a literal child crushing on him who "aged herself up" to be with him and he was cool with it. He was the lantern who broke under the influence of Parallax. The Lanterns show is just...
