Some of my favorite images from this year.
Former U.S. Rep. Gabby Giffords touches the Jan. 8 Memorial, which commemorates the 2011 shooting that left her and 18 others wounded, and killed 6. People enjoy snow and clouds at Windy Point on the Mount Lemmon Highway. Victor Borg helps one of his last customers purchase a pair of custom boots as he prepares to close the Stewart Boot Company, which served Tucson for 69 years. For the 2023 Arizona Press Club Awards, I revived 1st and 3rd place for Photojournalism News. Here are some of the photos from one story:

Laiken makes a vital point. A story in photos: April 2019, the border along Organ Pipe was marked by “vehicle barriers” and screen panels at Monument hill close to Lukeville, Ariz. Four years later, in Nov. 2023 nearly 750 asylum seekers huddled in the shadow of a 30-foot high wall after crossing.
