Alberta is already self-determining in a united Canada like all the other provinces & territories. It was that way long before she arrived. Danielle Smith and the UCP are trying to make Alberta a subjugated territory outside of Canada. It's a con. They wants us to throw away what we already have.

How to tell good people from bad? People who mean to do you harm, separate you from your foundational supports. People who mean to help you, join them.

I said this before and it remains true: "So Canadians, I think you should question your political candidates' intentions toward you when they talk about separating you from your foundational supports instead of joining them." #Canada #Unity #conservatives #ABPoli #Alberta #ABLeg #CanPoli

You are more valuable than you think. You are the right person at the right time. You are the deciding vote. Don’t give up your right to choose. Say 'NO' to the con, the lie, and the bad idea. Show up. Vote. #ABPoli #Alberta #ABLeg #Canada #CanPoli

It has a circle labelled "voting" enclosing 10 figures, 5 figures are coloured black to indicate they are committed to a bad idea and 5 figures are coloured red to indicate they are against the bad idea or undecided. Outside the circle is 12 more red figures with an arrow indicating they are the majority that did not vote and gave up their right to choose. To separate from Canada is even the wrong question to consider. It doesn't lead to the solutions to our issues. A person with common sense doesn’t take a single step on the path they should not go down. Nobody should start a journey that ends badly no matter which road is taken. #ABPoli #Alberta

The separatists have taken over the UCP. Regardless of the outcome, they will go on wasting money forcing their bad idea on us. The UCP can't be trusted. Danielle Smith lies. The referendum is about selling their BIG LIE: that leaving Canada will be better than working out our issues. It's a con.
121
Peter MacDougall @pmacdougall.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
There are many reasons why separatism is a bad idea: geography, politics, & threats to trade, freedom, & security. Alberta is a land-locked territory with multiple claims to the land. The well-being of the people of Alberta has always been and will always be tied to other Canadians.

"When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall, one by one, an un-pitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle." Edmund Burke in 'Thoughts On The Cause of Present Discontents (1770)' The separatists want people to do nothing to oppose their bad idea. #ABPoli #Alberta #ABLeg

Peter MacDougall @pmacdougall.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
The separatists are counting on this. The referendum IS binding. The UCP will separate if the separatists win. They'll act like it is non-binding only if they lose. They can't win on merit but can by playing the numbers by making sure every separatist votes but not every Albertan votes.

Peter MacDougall @pmacdougall.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
The overwhelming majority of people in Alberta want to stay in Canada. But not everyone will vote. The minority of people who want Alberta to separate will show up and vote. All of them. They will win if the majority of Albertans don't vote. #ABPoli #Alberta #ABLeg #Canada #CanPoli

Sometimes the most important thing we can do is show up. We show up to class, work, game night, dinner... For kids, parents, siblings, friends, loved ones, strangers... To be present, to be heard, to register our choice. #ABPoli #Alberta #ABLeg #Separate #Referendum #Canada #CanPoli

They may not be suitable replacements for Moneris for every business and changing payment companies would cost time and money. Canada’s businesses and people’s rights are being threatened. We should reconsider the sale of Moneris for the good of all Canadians.
002
Peter MacDougall @pmacdougall.bsky.social · 21/08/2026
Most payment companies in Canada are owned by US or foreign companies. There are only three other Canadian companies that keep the money they make and the data they handle inside Canada. They are Helcim, Clearly Payments, and RapidCents.
101
Peter MacDougall @pmacdougall.bsky.social · 21/08/2026
The US government could ask for this data and use it to harm Canada’s trade deals and limit business and personal freedom.
101
Peter MacDougall @pmacdougall.bsky.social · 21/08/2026
If Moneris is sold to a US company, it will have to follow US law before Canadian law. This is a problem because Canadian businesses and people need to keep control of their private information, especially data related to their health, government, and legal records.
101
Peter MacDougall @pmacdougall.bsky.social · 21/08/2026
Honourable MP, I am writing to ask you to look into stopping the sale of Moneris to a US company. Moneris is a payment company that handles about one-third of all credit card and debit card sales in Canada.

Peter MacDougall @pmacdougall.bsky.social · 21/08/2026
Regarding the sale of Moneris, I think contacting the privacy commission is not useful after reading their page describing what they can and cannot do. Contacting the competition bureau and your local MP is appropriate. Here is a draft you can modify and make your own.

She has attacked our democracy directly by attacking the judiciary because she wasn't allowed to be anti-democratic and disenfranchise people. She said it was anti-democratic to not let her be anti-democratic. This is Trump's playbook. That's not normal. That's not right.
100
Peter MacDougall @pmacdougall.bsky.social · 01/06/2026
This is not new behaviour. She went to Trump before the last election to manipulate the election by depriving people their right to an informed vote. When Canadians presented a united front to fight against the harmful US tariffs, she would not join.
100
Peter MacDougall @pmacdougall.bsky.social · 01/06/2026
I resent her focus on hurting people rather than helping them. Dividing to conquer seems to be her agenda. She isn't representing our joint, shared, and varied wishes. She is not upholding the rights of those most directly affected by her actions. That's not normal. It's not right.
100
Peter MacDougall @pmacdougall.bsky.social · 01/06/2026
Pushing the referendum creates uncertainty, chaos, and division that will last for years. There is no result that ends in peace. Business and daily life thrives on stability, predictability, and order. That's gone. This chaos and a possible breakup is perfect for Trump and associates, I figure.
