So anyway, today’s little guy is a CRT monitor. I actually prefer this #supernote drawing of it but wanted the more colorful doodle as the main image. I need a little color to offset the annoying tech things rn!!

I recently designed these little sproutlings while hanging with a friend and talking about art toys. It was initially supposed to be an urn with all the ash spilling out (💀 we were making halloween-y designs) but I think it works just as well as an upturned pot of soil! 3D + concepts in the thread🧵

Ooo it’s finally time for an intro post! This project has been in the works for many months now and it’s finally time to show it off. TLDR: This is an account that will feature daily-ish little guy doodles as well as animations, merch, a mail club, and art toys eventually! 🧵

I’ve got my silly little scrunkly pencil tests here as well. Really was channeling the inner child with this own to test the pencil and loosen up. One of them looks very jellyfish-core imo.

Initial concepts were made on the @supernote.com! I made a couple of sproutless toy designs too, but those don’t really fit within the scope of this project as it is right now. Let me know if you’d like to see any of those on this account, though! I’ll ponder how best to make that work 🤔

I think these little guys would be very fun to play with as art toys because there’s room for lots of different pot (or urn 💀) shapes as well as lots of different body shapes. I just gotta figure out how to get them into the third dimension…

Speaking of imperfection… I’m trying to learn @nomadsculpt.com to get these printed on my resin printer… but it’s a learning process. You can see I even left off the leaf on this first attempt because I was too overwhelmed to try to sculpt it 😭 If anyone has favorite nomad tutorials, let me know!!!

If I ever want to turn these into prints, I’ll go through and clean things up or redo them to a higher standard, but for a little daily doodle, it’s important that things feel a little scuffed to ward off any perfectionism temptations.

It’s been good for me to continue experimenting with materials and techniques for this project while not taking it too seriously. You can see there’s some smudges here and there for the rainbow pencil drawing and I’m just letting little things like that be.

A lot of my fine art work revolves around personal symbols and exploring that through art, and so this is kind of like a lighter version of that. I’m building my own lexicon of little guys, but other people might translate the symbols a little differently :) And that’s part of the fun of it!

A lot of times with these, I’m trying to capture a specific vibe more than anything else. I’m also okay with people looking at the doodles and feeling like they feel like better representations of something else entirely!

But aside from helping him feel a little more like a sheep you might count to get to sleep, I think having it soft really helps to drive in that rested feeling, maybe right after you’ve woken up from an easy nap in the sunlight. The edges of everything feel just a bit softer, less intense.

I have a lot of doodles of him with the eye closed as well, which I think helps, and that I might include if I make more official drawings of him.

It’s a balancing act for sure to decide if I want to go more literal or more abstract with these—I actually went on to doodle these guys in a sleepy purple to try to figure out the final form, and something about the soft, fluffy nature of this guy drove it home for me.

Today’s idea is one I’m not really sure about! He’s a potion bottle, so maybe an ingredient or catalyst for something bigger? I guess the fact that I don’t actually know exactly what he is ends up actually being pretty fitting if he’a only a piece of something bigger!

Good things come to those who rest 🐑 On Sunday, I had this moment of finding a real bit of rest. You know that feeling that you got when school was out, and you knew that you were done with homework for a few months? For some reason, despite how much I still have to do, I got a moment like that.

It took a few tries, but I finally got to an idea that I’m really happy with—an idea I NEVER would have had if I hadn’t had my little moment of rest. So please take this as your reminder for the importance of resting as a *part* of your creative practice!! 🛌

The final direction I went in was a bit more abstract. I moved from beds to sheep and then abstracted it a bit further so it didn’t feel like I was just making a sheep with a leaf on it. I’m not *opposed* to some of these guys looking like that, but I wanted this one to feel a bit more conceptual.

This project continues to be a really interesting exploration of symbols vs shapes to convey the ideas I’m trying to convey. You can see that the earlier attempts were more direct symbols of ‘rest’ being pillows and beds and wearing eye masks.
