I’m watching Cape Fear (1991) and it’s impossible to divorce this from the Simpsons episode parodying it at this point

based on how I’ve felt watching the Covid section of this episode, not at all

Watching part 2, which is so far largely about the revitalization of NYC post-9/11. the filmmakers have been working on this for some time, and it’s kind of wild to hear about things like Bloomberg-era rezonings with what I imagine wasn’t a ton of distance from those events

130

Imagine, like, the Cobrasnake in this lighting

oh no we’ve gotten to Trump

OK there’s a part about artists in SoHo in the 1970s so I can only hope for Ric Burns’s take on indie sleaze as part of the discussion around the rise of Brooklyn as a cultural center

240

gotta come see where the maps get made!

020

I still regret not getting the Standards Manual reprint when it was available 😭 I know where there are copies of the original in the office tho!

I also have 2 more shelves that are all NYC books I inherited from my dad plus a shelf with two Power Brokers and assorted NYC reference books. maybe too much tbh

When did vaping indoors become something people feel emboldened to do? I’m at a fancy bakery in a tiny upstate town and a guy vaped while waiting in line, which is a new one for me!

The answer key is posted on MTA Instagram!

Honestly I am thrilled by how many people that one stumped, as a person who enjoys a good beer bottle cap rebus

what a day to have an appointment with my psychiatrist and get a reminder about getting a mammogram. like sure I’m already anxious today, let’s just pile it on

confronted with a cheerful influencer’s face-to-camera “I bet you didn’t know this about 9/11” video and honestly, maybe the internet was a mistake

081

sigh, probably. then it’s time to introduce you to my favorite dive near the office!

080

you know what this means: time to find the best martini near the office

180

anyway, this week is weird!

(I lived at Sullivan and Bleecker from Aug 2001-Aug 2003, I genuinely didn’t realize the “disaster area” went that far north)

140

and this is how I learned that I lived one block outside of the disaster area in the 2 years immediately after 9/11

I’m Amy, I live in NYC, l work for a large transit agency here, and I have a cat. I love every moment of “House of Jealous Lovers” by the Rapture but i *really* love that it kicks into nearly a minute of funky cowbell at the 13-second mark. It’s really a god-tier song.
