A Wagner Orchestra That Almost Never Tours On Saturday 29 August, the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra plays a single concert at the Palau de la Música Catalana in Sant Pere, and that sentence alone should get the attention of anyone who follows classical music. This orchestra exists to play Wagner at the Bayreuth Festival in Germany, in the pit of a theatre built to Wagner's own specifications. It does not tour. When it leaves Bayreuth at all, the reason is usually significant, and this year it is: the tour marks 150 years since the Bayreuth Festival began and 40 years of the Festival Castell de Peralada, which is co-organising the stop in Barcelona with the Palau.

Digitalism have been circling Barcelona for two decades without landing here often, so a date at La [2] de Apolo on October 31 counts as one of the year's rarer stops. Pianist Pin-Hong Lin plays a solo recital at the Palau de la Música Catalana, in the Sant Pere neighbourhood, on 17 August. It's the kind of classical piano concert Barcelona doesn't get often. She's an emerging talent, not a name touring the festival circuit. However, she's playing in a hall built for exactly this. Lin won the Fundació Orfeó Català-Palau de la Música Catalana Prize at the 2025 Maria Canals International Piano Competition. That competition is one of the more serious ones in Europe. It's also a regular launchpad for young pianists building international careers.

Tori Sparks has spent enough time in Esquerra de l'Eixample to count as a local, and on October 30 she closes out one of the more ambitious projects a Barcelona-based musician has attempted in years. The Chicago-born singer-songwriter brings her band to Aclam Club to release Volumes IV and V of Cabinet of Curiosities, a five-volume concept album she has been building since her first instalment landed. This is not a warm-up show. It is the finale. What the Show Actually Is Sparks writes in the space between Americana, blues, folk and soul, and her Barcelona years have pulled in Mediterranean and flamenco textures that would sound forced coming from almost anyone else.

Sant Pere sits just north of El Born, wedged between the Gothic Quarter and the wider Eixample grid. Its best-known building hosts a guitar duo concert this August. On Monday, 24 August, Mario Strinati and Pietro Agosti, Duo StriAgo, play the Concert Hall of the Palau de la Música Catalana. It's part of Summer at the Palau, the venue's slower-paced counterpart to the main autumn and winter season. A Guitar Duo Built on Two Continents The program is titled "Sospiro." Strinati and Agosti built it around a deliberate pairing: Brazilian repertoire against European classical writing.
