The UK just committed £22bn to carbon capture and storage – a tech with an 80% failure rate that lets oil & gas greenwash their emissions. At this CCS conference, most speakers repped fossil fuel companies. Share if you think it's absurd we're funding tech that protects fossil fuel profits 🙃

Have you ever looked out at the wind farm in the Thames Estuary? How does it work; who owns it? What if it were owned by the people? This weekend, join us @EstuaryFestival to celebrate wind power through singing, sailing and a film screening.

Or look at the Garth Community Wind Farm in Shetland. It generates 90x more wealth per MW than the massive Viking Wind Farm — despite being 100x smaller. Community-owned projects are punching above their weight.

Take Tiree. Their community turbine, “Tilley,” is 1% the size of a nearby corporate wind farm, but it returns 100x more economic value to the island.

🧵 REVEALED: Community energy projects in Scotland are generating 100x more local wealth than privately-owned wind farms. But just 0.5% of the renewable power is community-owned. Why this staggering imbalance?

Current proposals - like consolidating smaller pension funds into “mega-funds” - focus on risky short-term growth. Now is the moment to push for a pensions system that invests in a just transition, accountable to workers and communities.
